Hold On

Blazer; Pants: Zara, Vest: Camaieu, Shoes: Dorothy Perkins, Jewelry: Various

I've been collecting poems since I was little. It's a hobby passed on to me by my dad. As I was sitting wondering what to write about, I realized I wanted to talk about holding on. And I remembered this poem I'd gotten from my dad's poetry collection. I don't know who the author is, but it's lovely.

Hold on though it seems that there is nothing left for you.

Hold on in the darkness, till the sun comes breaking through.
Hold on to your courage in the chaos of your grief,
Hold on, bravely, blindly, to your faith, and belief.
Let go now,and you may drift, tossed by the waves of chance,
Hurled into strange waters by the storms of circumstance.
The sea of life is deep, 'tis only fools who venture out,
At the mercy of the winds, upon the rocks of doubt.
Though it seems that hope has fled and every joy has gone,
Listen to the Voice within that says to you HOLD ON!

On a style note, these beads take this drab corporate look to kitschy. And I so adore these blue pumps with their suede cut-out detail and chunky heel. They really are so comfortable! Or I'd never attempt something like what I did in the last photo. The things I do for this blog! ;)

Pink Pumps!

Top: Mango, Skirt: H&M,  Shoes: Miss Selfridge, Jewelry: Gifted, Watch: Swatch

Finally I wore these pink pumps! Scratch that. FINALLY I got them. I'd been pining for them for over two months. They were even on my Christmas Wish List. But unforch, no one gifted them to me (sticking my tongue out at you mean non-gifters) and I didn't buy them because they costed an unaffordable BD 29. I was so crazy about them that almost everytime I went to the mall I'd go into Miss Selfridge just to look at them. I must've asked the sales assistant a dozen times if she was sure they wouldn't go on sale. She would always smile and say no. I'd always sigh and walk out. Then on a recent trip to the mall where I was helping an editor friend to pick out hats and scarves for a magazine article, I went into Miss Selfridge. I noticed the price on them and squealed. They'd been marked down to BD 14! YAY! And this was the last piece in my size. I couldn't pay for them fast enough! And I'm finally, finally wearing them today...they're mine to hold and to wear and look at.
So moral of the story, if you really want something badly...well, you know the rest.

Happy Weekend! xxx

My 16 Rules For Living

I promised you in this Rules for Living post that I'd give you my own Rules for Living. It took me a few months, but here they are:
  1. Never put yourself down. There are enough people to do it for you.
  2. It's alright to flip out once in a while. Just as long as the flipping out doesn't take too long and then you take action to solve the reason for flipping out.
  3. You're the best version of yourself when you're in pursuit of your dream. And you attract good things to yourself. So always, always chase your dream.
  4. If it made you happy, don't regret it.
  5. When you're independent, people want you to depend on them.
  6. Don't do for people what they can and should do for themselves.
  7. You have one body for your entire life. Take good care of it.
  8. The most successful people are the ones who apply logic in all scenarios.
  9. After applying logic, listen to your instinct. It's almost always right.
  10. Never overestimate others' intelligence. Never underestimate your own.
  11. Life is too long to hold grudges. And carrying all that anger around only tires you.
  12. Never reveal your weaknesses to anyone. Work on them secretly.
  13. You can be your own best friend by not letting others influence your judgment.
  14. Always stick with people who know they are flawed and ridiculous.
  15. Be kind and gentle, being harsh and angry gets you nowhere.
  16. Before forgiving someone else, learn to forgive yourself first.

Little Delights Tuesday

  • Someone telling me I'm their lucky charm.
  • Unexpected gifts: a box of Godiva chocolates (thank you David!), gorgeous jewelry and a cute key ring.
  • Making my brother's cat go crazy with a laser. If you have never done this, you don't know what you're missing! It's hilarious!
  • Singing and acting along to songs as if someone's filming me for the music video.
  • Finding that the shoes I've been drooling over for two months have finally been marked down (from BD 29 to BD 14!) and getting them. I'll introduce you to these beautiful babies soon.
  • Finishing a Mills & Boons romance novel in two days. Don't judge me. They're excellent light reads. Pfft! Why am I justifying this?
  • Finding the perfect shampoo and conditioner. This is going to sound very advertise-y, bu it makes my hair soft, smooth, shiny and oh-so-sexy!
  • Taking a shower in really hot water and watching as the steam fills up the bathroom. Then I pretend I'm in my personal sauna.
Tell me yours! xxx

Red, White, Black and Blue!

Blouse: Jeanswest, Jeans: Zara, Boots: Payless, Clutch: Mango, Necklace: Gifted, Rings: right hand: Accessorize; left  hand: Gold Souk, Watch: Vintage.

I was dying to wear these new red jeans. Finally I got a chance. It's nice to not work in a corporate office and have to wear formal clothes everyday. B-o-ring. Before I could wear jeans only on the weekend. Now I can wear them daily if I want. Yay!! Anyhow, I was in a very minimalist mood today. I really didn't want to wear all my winter layers and was quite prepared to brave the cold. But the Universe was on my side as today was warmer than yesterday. And that's why you don't see me freezing in the pictures. Which you'll most probably see tomorrow if this kinda weather continues.

How was your day? xxx

Blush pink and forest green

Sweater: Guess, Shirt: borrowed from dad, Jeans: from Thailand, Boots: Payless, Handbag:  Mango, Earrings: from India, Rings: right hand: Gold Souk, left hand: Posh.

I wore a men's forest green shirt today, tucked into blue skinnies. I added a blush pink sweater on top, and knee-high boots since it was freezing. {As you can see from the photos!} I love the combination of green and pink. I finished with simple jewelry and my red quilted bag.

Until tomorrow, ciao! xxx

All in Mango

Photos taken by Paul Gomes
Full outfit: Mango, Shoes: Dorothy Perkins, Earrings & Necklace: Gifted, Rings: from India, Watch: Swatch.

Whew! I had a long eventful day. One meeting, a trip to two malls, a trip to the supermarket, meeting friends, whew! (Although I was driven around in a BMW like a princess, thanks to a chivalrous friend) I inadvertently got dressed all in Mango today! I love this dress. I'd got it on sale a year back. The fifties style cinched waist and A-line skirt are really flattering on my athletic bod and I like that the neck is so high. The belt is pure leather (sometimes I just like to smell it!) and it goes with almost everything. And of course, my lovely beige pea coat. It's warm and oh-so-elegant. The perfect thing to throw on and rush out when it's freezing. I slip on my black high heels and I'm ready to conquer the world.

Hope you're having a nice weekend! Thanks for stopping by! xxx

A Short Skirt Mood

Top; Pimkie, Skirt: H&M, Belt: F21, Boots: Payless, Handbag: Mango, Cuff: Gifted, Ring: Accessorize, Watch: Vintage

Today I was in the mood for a short skirt. Yes, I have 'clothes' moods. I go to sleep knowing what I want to wear the next day. And last night I knew I had to wear a short skirt today. Even though it's cold. The knee-high boots took care of that though. Here's a confession: I wear nice thick socks inside my boots to keep warm. And once my legs are warm, the rest of me is too.
It's Thursday, it's the weeeeeeekkkend! Have fun! Ciao!

Flared jeans and a knotted scarf

Sweater: Jane Norman, Top: Pimkie, Jeans: H&M, Scarf and Bangle: Gifted, Shoes: Dorothy Perkins, Handbag: Mango
It's still pretty cold today, which is why I stuck to jeans for today's outfit. I wore my flared jeans with a white graphic tee, and wore a gray sweater and knotted a soft white scarf around my neck. Chunky blue pumps with details and a red bag completed the look.
