13 Things 2012 taught me

  1. Sometimes you need to run away to find yourself.
  2. The more you desperately chase after something the more it evades you. When you decide you can live without it, the best of it comes to you.
  3. Happiness is in the smallest of things, like playing board games and laughing all night with friends and family.
  4. Not all the lessons of the past can be applied to your present.
  5. You have to unlearn a lot of the old to make space for the new experiences life wants to bring.
  6. Listen to your intuition. It's there for a reason. It will protect you and guide you.
  7. Don't keep looking so far ahead that you keep missing what's under your nose the entire time.
  8. Get to know yourself. Prod and poke your mind, your feelings and your reactions. One of  the most difficult  things to do, but also the most rewarding.
  9. Resist the temptation to escape situations, places and people. You're not escaping them, you're trying to escape yourself.
  10. Find at least ONE thing to do that makes you feel alive. Then try to find people like that, and then a place.
  11. The best people help you love your life and add value to every single area of your life.
  12. One of the hardest things you'll ever do is to try and change yourself. Realize this and stop trying to change others.
  13. Don't be afraid of challenging yourself. You, your mind and your body can handle anything as long as your will can.

The making of this gorgeous top

Top: TSKD, Jeans: Bershka, Shoes: Miss Selfridge, Watch: Swatch.
This gorgeous top was designed by yours truly and stitched by me mum. {Irish accent intended.} She spotted this gorgeous sequinned pink and green lace piece on one of her trips to India and had to bring it back for me. {I looovvvvve my mom.} I went gaga when I saw it and knew it'd look amazing on gray. So we found this gray chiffon and stitched it on. But the chiffon was too sheer with only the lace on top so I had to find another lace to cover the bottom and back. I rummaged through my mom's lace collection and found this green one which matched perfectly with the one on top. This green one's probably 20-30 years old! {My mom has a treasure trove of vintage and new lace, cloth pieces, buttons, you-name-it. It's no wonder I'm such a clotheshorse.} So that was stitched on, then we took some time in getting these beautiful sleeves right and ta-da! Light, flowy, girly and gorgeous. For this look I paired it with black skinnies and pink heels to bring out the pink in the lace.

Lately I have...

He loves my shoes as much as I do.

I was in Dubai last week and my brother and I ate at this amazing place called Saladicious.
My brother. He does 'lost in thought' well.
The Temptation Salad. A combination of strawberries, mixed leaves and caramelized walnuts...Oh. My. God.
Clouds...
And more clouds...
An MMA fight shop where I went looking for my MMA gloves.
Haha!
Back in Bahrain. Thai soup at my favourite Thai place.

Mint dress and orange boots

Dress: Jane Norman, Shoes: Oxygene, Clutch: Aldo, Earrings: Gifted, Photos: Arif Feroze.
I've always been a late bloomer when it comes to trends but I like it that way. It usually gives me time to see what trend is here to stay and what I should invest in. And thus the mint dress and the Jeffrey Campbell Lita lookalike boots. I've been wanting mint for a long time but I hate  wearing something when everyone's wearing it. Now that it's died down a bit, I got myself this super-gorgeous mint dress. I love the colour, the print and the fit of the dress. And I'm so glad I found these boots in a mall. I'm usually not someone who likes designer knock-offs but I've drooled over these boots for 2 years. So when I chanced upon them in a mall I couldn't resist. Even though I knew they're not the original Litas. Anyhoo, I have them now and I'm tres happy!
Style tip: Don't be afraid to mix clashing colours like mint and orange together or contrasting styles like this formal dress and these rock-chic-nerdy boots. Eclectic combos work!

Colour blocking on rainy days

Top: Camaieu, Jacket: Koton, Jeans: Bershka, Shoes: New Look, Earrings: Gifted.
I decided to do a bit of colour blocking with this outfit. So I paired all my favourite colours together: red, blue and pink, and the white jeans were the perfect neutral buffer. I love these huge flower earrings I got recently and only added those and a ring as accessories. All in all a very simple outfit, something that I just threw together in a hurry on a rainy day!
Note to self: Don't stand on the grass for taking pictures. Your heels will sink!

A statement necklace and a skirt that reminds me of summer.

Top: Zara, Skirt: Lipsy, Shoes: Steve Madden, Necklace and Ring: Gifted, Bangles: from India, Handbag: Jane Norman. Photos: Arif Feroze.
I am absolutely crazy in love with this necklace. The funniest thing is that my dad picked it out for me! My parents had gone to India to attend a wedding and my dad insisted on buying this necklace for me. I love it! It's huge, it's statement, and it's pink! But mostly because it's something I would've never picked out for myself. I'm actually thinking of taking my dad with me whenever I go jewelry shopping.
And how cute is this floral skirt? I saw it on sale while window shopping last week and had to have it. It reminds me of summer {ok, it reminds me of spring, but I live in a desert so there's no spring here. :( } even though the weather's getting colder. Have I already said I hate winter? Well if I haven't, here it is: I HATE WINTER. You'll be hearing a lot more of that so get used to it already.
