The paradox of Change

Bolero: Chica, Top: Camaieu, Skirt: H&M, Boots: Oxygene.
So many things have changed for me in the last two weeks. I love change but hate how it's so unpredictable. When it hits you you're just standing there wondering, what the hell just happened? You don't know what to do next. You can't even see ahead or plan, no matter how much you want to. And for an impatient, restless person like me this period is the most exasperating. But I've realized I have to wait until the dust settles and then take the next step. In the end, whatever change I have come across {or in reality, that has come across me} I've been supremely happy with. Let's hope all these changes turn out the same.

Nail Art by Bourjois

Bourjois sent me this Nail Art kit recently and I finally tried it out yesterday.

This is the kit.

It's not perfect but considering this is the first time I did something like this, I'm happy with it.
The instructions are on the back, but there's always a difference to what the instructions tell you and how you do it. So this is how I did it. I followed the instructions, with a few tweaks.

Tools:
I used these nail colours: A base coat, a pink polish, a blue one and a top coat.

This is what's inside the kit: stencils, stickers, and silver sticky tape. Quite a lot of stuff which I'm guessing will last me quite long!

So here's what I did:
1. I painted a base coat, and then the pink. {Wait for it to dry completely.} Now the tricky part- painting the little blue triangles on top of my nails using the stencils. Thankfully the stencils are really good and sticky, so it was easy. Put the stencils on all 5 fingers and then start painting. I painted all 5 and then peeled the stencil off. Painting all 5 fingers together helped the paint dry a bit which helped me peel off the stencil without smudging.
Tip: Cut off the top part of the stencil to make it easier.
I know this pic is slightly blurry but I've taken these with my phone. I'm so smart that after I started I realized there's no one home to take pics. So all these have been taken by me, with one hand. Except the last one of course.

This was the result.

2. The tape. Very tricky. If you have a sister or best friend, ask them to help you with this. I stuck the tape on directly from the roll and then snipped it with scissors.
Tip: You'll have a teeny bit of excess tape on the edge of your nails. Cut it off using nail clippers.

3. I stuck the stickers on and then painted the top coat. I did two coats of top coat to make sure all the stickers sealed in.

Et voila! Pretty nails!

Teal top, black pants and...red.

Top: Pimkie, Pants: TSKD Designs, Necklace: Gifted, Clutch: Aldo, Shoes: Steve Madden.
Photos: Anceeta Martis.
Teal is soon becoming my second favourite colour. Someone had told me that it would look good on my skin tone and I decided to try it. I've fallen in love with it since. Of course, it doesn't come close to my favourite, red. It's the colour of passion and bloody {pun not intended} hell I'm passionate about it. Nowadays I'm so in love with the colour that inadvertently I have it on me in some way or the other. Case in point- my red oversized clutch here. I love the colour so much that I have every piece of clothing and accessory in it. Jackets, pants, handbags, shoes, tops, bangles. And lots of red lippies. When I'm not wearing red clothes I make up for it {pun intended} by wearing red lipstick. I just wanna eat it up! {The colour, not my lipsticks. That'd be gross.} I've already told my mom that I want these same pants that she's made in black, in red. And of course, the best testimonial to my love of the colour is that I started this post intending to write about teal and ended up writing about... sigh... red.

My trip to Italia

I love travel and I love, love, love Europe. I'm missing and pining for the place so I was going through the photos of my trip to Italy in 2010.  It was a solo vacation {yes, solo, meaning I went alone. I surprise a lot of people when I say that I went alone which is why I clarified.} and I visited 5 cities- Venice, Florence, Siena, Pisa and Rome. I hate their anglicized names and much prefer them as Venezia, Firenze, Siena, Pisa and Roma. This was my first vacation alone. I had dreamt about going to Italy all my life and once I started working I saved up for it for two years, diligently putting money away every month from my meagre income. For two whole years I looked at pictures of Italy on my work desk. I was so determined to use that money for my trip that even when a beloved aunt fell terribly ill and all of us had to gather money to help toward her treatment, I took a loan rather than break my Italian holiday trust fund.
Finally when the time came my entire family was against it except for my older brother. Still, I went. And had the most amazing time of my life.

I thought I'd share the pictures with you because why should I pine for Europe alone? ;)
 {Now please remember I was alone so there are very few pics of me.}

Venezia
The most amazing, breath-taking city. I took a gondola ride alone and got so many stares it was hilarious. I guess people were expecting me to be sobbing into my hanky over a jilted lover or something, not enjoying a gondola ride by myself!

 Firenze
I have very few pictures of Firenze as I went there for the museums and you're not allowed to take photos inside the museums. But the statue of David...Mamma Mia! I stood 4 hours in the rain waiting to get inside the Galleria dell'Accademia but when I did, I didn't want to take my eyes off of David.
Note to self: Always book important museum tickets online in advance.

 Siena
Siena is a little town in Tuscany. I decided to go to Siena when I was in Firenze. It was my 'spontaneous decision city'- one city that I wanted to spontaneously pick and visit while I was in Italy. I'm glad I picked Siena because it had the most character and charm than all the others.

 Pisa
I had to visit Pisa and see the leaning tower whilst I was in Italy. And man, does that tower lean!

 Roma
Ah, caput mondi Roma, capital of the world. So much to do, so much to see. The best part of travelling alone is that you can take your time seeing everything. I visited all the famous sights and monuments, and took my time looking at all 53 galleries in the Vatican until finishing with the Sistine Chapel. {I remember studying about the Sisitine Chapel in History class and promising to myself that one day I'd go and see that ceiling for myself.}

I hope I've made you pine to travel to Italy, or anywhere else for that matter. I would highly recommend travelling alone {to at least one place} because it eliminates fear on so many different levels. I'm looking forward to a lot of travel this year, fingers crossed that all the trips I have planned out in my head happen!
