From Candle Holder to Jewelry Tree

I just did a cool re-use thing in my room and thought I'd share it. So I have this candle holder that was gifted to me on my last birthday. It has four cute little glasses to put candles in.

Unfortunately, one glass broke. And when the candles melted in the glasses, they became messy and difficult to remove. So I stopped using it. And it was just there, on my wall, looking bored.

So I decided to convert it into a jewelry tree.

I figured that all those intricate wires would be great to hang earrings, and I could place jewelry like rings or bracelets in the cute glasses.

At least the pretty candle-holder isn't wasted and bonus, it makes my room more interesting. Jewelry hung on anything just makes it look prettier, doesn't it?

DIY Coloured Jewelry

I recently saw a post on The Sparkly Life about how to make a DIY neon necklace. I loved the idea, tried it out and made myself some coloured jewelry!

Here's how I did it.

You'll need:

Nail polish

Any rhinestone jewelry. {I used my mom's. You can buy cheap ones from any shop or online.}

Cotton buds.

A paper or paper plate to keep the jewelry on.

This necklace and earring set is ages old. It's definitely vintage and my mom wasn't wearing it anymore. Perfect for me!

Carefully paint the rhinestones with the nail polish, avoiding the prongs. If you get it on the prongs or any other part of the jewelry, use the cotton buds to wipe it off.

Two coats of nail polish give the stones a great opaque effect. Let dry and you've got yourself brand new colourful jewelry!

How simple is that? I've even tried it on oxidised silver jewelry and it's great! Here's a necklace that I painted over with a pale pink colour.

Since learning this I've dug out more vintage jewelry from my mom's treasure chest and I'm painting, painting, painting! Try it and let me know what you think of the idea!

Here's something I did to this T-shirt that I was tired of wearing but didn't want to throw away. I love the artwork on it and wanted it displayed in front of me to see everyday. So I made it into a storage bag.

It's really simple. All I did was to sew the bottom opening together.

If you don't have a sewing machine at home, just take your tee to a tailor and ask him to sew the end together.

Now I have the tee hanging from a hanger in my room and I use it to store things. I've also done this with another t-shirt and hung it in my bathroom. It's also a unique addition to your room!

DIY - Buttoned Clutch

I'd been wanting an oversized clutch for quite sometime now but I was never satisfied with any of them in the shops. My mom recently got this black one gifted to her. It's excellent quality leather. But it's black. And I wanted something that would add colour to my outfits. So I decided to add the colour on the clutch! My mom stitches so she has a menagerie of vintage and new buttons. And I thought that that was just what this clutch needed. (Did I blow you away with my use of menagerie?)

All you need is a variety of colourful buttons and a needle and thread. Knowing how to sew a button on helps too. (If you don't, shame on you! Just kidding.)

I woke up the seamstress in me and got stitching! All I did was choose an assortment of colourful buttons, in different shapes and sizes, and stitched them on the top space of the clutch. This was easy with this clutch as the leather is very soft and pliable.

Make sure you open up the clutch completely and smooth out the lining so that the thread doesn't get caught in the front and back lining. I stitched about 4-5 buttons at one time with the same length of thread.
