This outfit is out of my comfort zone in so many ways. Firstly, the colours. I usually don't pair blue with green. My mind automatically thinks of pairing a bright or deep color with white or pink. Secondly, I usually don't pair a loose top with a loose bottom, and lastly, I never wear crop tops like these that are short and loose. I'm much more accustomed to wearing tops that are longer so they can be tucked into pants/ skirts. But I decided to take a chance and break away from my usual combos and try something a bit different. Hey, it's good to get out of your comfort zone some times. And overall, I'm happy with the result.
The soft, powder blue goes well with the deep, forest green of the pants. The volume of the ruffle sleeves balances out the wide palazzo legs of the pants so the silhouette doesn't look disproportioned. Both the top and pants are very different textures so there's a contrast to the look. The top is a thick, stretchy material, while the pants are a softer, more natural crepe-like material. I'm in love with this top because of the color as well as the big ruffle sleeves. It's super comfy to move around in and makes you feel glamorous and girly with those big sleeves jutting out but falling softly. The pants are quite wide in the leg, giving them a flair of their own and again making for a very comfortable wear.
With a cropped top like this, make sure you wear high-waist pants so you're not flashing your stomach at the office. The high waist also adds structure to the look as the pants go up and under the top. I accessorized with a chandelier pendant necklace{I love chandeliers. If it were up to me I'd have a chandelier hanging in every room of the house but I'll settle for a necklace instead} that stands out very obviously on the light blue of the top. I matched dainty sapphire and diamond studs to the pendant. With short sleeves like these, arms can look very bare so I wore chunky arm candy to balance the volume of the sleeves and to fill up the empty space. An oxidized silver bangle set and a statement watch did the job nicely and look feminine and smart at the same time. This deep green bag was a recent gift and I'm completely in love with its structure, deep jewel tone and its gold and emerald accents. The bag is from Charles & Keith, if you'd like to get it for yourself.
In other news, I went for a quick weekend break to Dubai with mom. I attended the new Les Mills BodyBalance masterclass, and spent time with old friends. It was a quick trip but fun and refreshing. Now that both the Eids are over, it's time to put my nose to the grindstone and work, work, work! But work is always fun so I don't mind! :) New projects and collaborations make my work so much more interesting. I think that's just what's needed to keep looking forward to each new day and not let the drudgery get you down. I'm my own boss but that doesn't mean I have no stress. Any kind of work comes with its own stresses and troubles and the thing that keeps you going is newness. New ideas, new projects, new ventures, meeting new people ... or something as simple as a new top to wear to work the next day. Don't you agree?
