5 Ways To Protect Yourself And Your Family From Environmental Hazards

When it comes to health, we can't ignore environmental hazards anymore. The environment is constantly changing and evolving, which can sometimes lead to dangerous situations for you and your family. Which is why it's important to be aware of the potential environmental hazards that exist in around us. And take steps to protect ourselves from them. In this blog post I'll show you five ways to safeguard yourself and your loved ones from environmental dangers.

Stay Informed

One way to protect yourself and your family from environmental hazards is to stay informed about the dangers that exist in your community. Pay attention to local news and weather reports, and be sure to heed any issued warnings. Before you do any DIY or housework, a simple Google search hlps you stay clear of toxins. E.g, you'd maybe run a search for what is the best way to remove lead paint. By being informed, you're better prepared to deal with any potential hazards that may come your way.

An Emergency Plan

Another way to protect yourself and your family is to be prepared for any potential hazards. This means having an emergency plan in place and knowing what to do in case of an emergency. As a fitness instructor trained in fist aid, I highly recommend you have a first-aid kit on hand and know how to use it. It's also a good idea to keep a supply of food and water in case you need to evacuate your home. Being prepared can help you stay calm in an emergency situation and potentially save your life.

Avoid Certain Areas

In some cases, the best way to protect yourself and your family from environmental hazards is to simply avoid certain areas. If an area of your town or city is known to be contaminated, do your best to avoid it. This may mean finding a new route to take to work or school or avoiding certain parks or playgrounds. Of course, avoiding an area completely is not always possible. If you must go into a contaminated area, there are some things you can do to minimize your exposure to the hazard.

Limit Your Exposure

If you must go into an area that is contaminated, there are some things you can do to limit your exposure to the hazard. First, wear protective clothing such as gloves, a mask, and goggles. If working with a hazardous substance, make sure to ventilate the area well. Finally, shower and change your clothes as soon as possible after exposure. By limiting your exposure, you can reduce your risk of health problems.

Get Help

If you or a loved one has been exposed to a hazardous substance, it's important to get help immediately. Seek medical attention and call poison control or a local emergency number. If you suspect that your home or workplace has been contaminated, call a professional remediation company. These companies are trained to safely clean up hazardous materials. You can also do your research about other ways to get help, such as searching for things like, what is the PACT Act? Getting professional help for you and your family is vital when it comes to dealing with environmental hazards.

When it comes to environmental hazards, it's important to take precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones. By following these five tips, you can help keep yourself and your family safe from harm.

Dietary Sabotage: 4 Unhealthy Habits That Are Ruining Your Diet

Dietary Sabotage: 4 Unhealthy Habits That Are Ruining Your Diet

You probably started the year promising: new year, new you. And the one aspect you're looking to improve is your diet. This is a wonderful decision because what you eat plays a significant role in your overall well-being. You might've even created a dietary plan and have been following it religiously.

But you don’t seem to be getting the results you want. Well, YOU might be the problem! You might have a few unhealthy habits that affect the effectiveness of your diet. Wondering like what?

Here are a few.

  1. Setting unrealistic goals

There are several reasons why you decided to go on a healthy diet, such as losing weight or reducing various health conditions and disorders. For it to be effective, you need to put some goals in place. Your goals act as a metric and guide, ensuring you're on the right track.

But having unrealistic goals can make this a problem. This is because such goals are difficult to achieve, resulting in demotivating you. Instead, take the time to think about how you can achieve your main objective by taking a few steps at a time. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, you can set a target to lose an inch on your waistline each month. It may seem small, but this would be better than trying to lose 1 inch each week, which may be impossible. Not to mention unhealthy.

  1. Following a restrictive diet plan

As you know, dieting requires commitment and discipline. So, isn’t a restrictive diet plan an amazing idea? According to experts, (and me, a fitness instructor), it isn’t. Diets that require hefty sacrifices may do you more harm than good.

For instance, it'd be a huge challenge to follow a diet plan that requires you (a non-vegan or vegetarian) to abstain from meat entirely. You'll find yourself craving meat, and the minute you get to satisfy this craving, you know you're going to overindulge. It's better to create a diet that creates balance, not deprivation. You can add various foods to your plan but in moderation.

  1. Improper exclusion

Although it isn’t advisable to follow a restrictive diet plan, including some foods will hinder your expected results. The problem comes when the wrong foods are removed. Fats and carbohydrates are common food categories that are mistakenly removed from many diets. Trans fat and saturated fat are unhealthy. However, avocados, olive oil, nuts, and seeds contain healthy fats that could do more for you if included in your diet.

Carbohydrates are important as they provide energy, minerals, and fiber. As such, its exclusion may not help you realize your goals. You should review your dietary plan and include various foods and other products like this one, to help you maximize your dietary results. Also make sure you include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your die. So you're always eating a balanced diet and not missing out on essential vitamins and minerals.

  1. Skipping meals

It's a common misconception amongst some dieters that less is more. This is far from true. Skipping meals is never a good idea and can sabotage your diet efforts. On the surface, skipping a few meals throughout the day is a quick and easy way to avoid extra calories and avoid foods that aren’t healthy. But in reality, starving yourself for an extended period may cause you to overeat and mess up your diet.

Breakfast is a meal skipped by most people, and this simple action could be sabotaging your results. As the name implies, breakfast breaks the fast you are on when you sleep. Skipping this important meal will make you feel tired and weak. It can also increase your blood pressure and your risk of experiencing frequent headaches and migraines.

Instead of skipping meals, getting three square meals a day is best. Starting with a healthy, hearty breakfast. If you're busy and always on the go, consider meal prep plans to help you get the nutrition you need. It also helps a lot if you eat healthy snacks between meals to stop yourself from getting too hungry.

Going on a diet is a great decision in your journey to be healthier, and see great results. But, as seen above, some of your habits may be preventing that. Now that you know what could be sabotaging your efforts, it's time to make a change. And if you'd like, consider speaking to a dietician to make absolutely sure that these changes suitable for you and gain more insight into the right habits to implement.

What Should You Do If You Experience Unexplained Pain? Here Are 5 Tips

What Should You Do If You Experience Unexplained Pain? Here Are 5 Tips

As a fitness instructor, I'm not new to body pain. But sometimes, your body surprises you with weird pain. Have you ever woken up with unexplained pain? This could be anywhere from your back to your head or even your stomach.

Usually, there’s a simple reason for this. For instance, you might have slept funny or something that you ate last night didn't completely agree with you. If that’s the case, the pain will likely go away after a few hours or at worst a few days.

But what if the situation keeps getting worse? What if the pain remains for days or even weeks? If that’s the case, then you need to understand the best ways to handle that unexplained pain. I’ve got some answers for you to keep in mind.

Try Some Painkillers

First, think about taking some painkillers. Over the counter medicine will help you handle most issues with pain. It'll either reduce it or eliminate it completely. If it does neither and you see virtually no impact from using over the counter medicine, then this suggests that there might be a more significant issue that you need to handle head on. But you may want to wait a couple of weeks before contacting a doctor to get a professional opinion or additional advice.

Get A Professional Opinion

If your pain hasn’t gone away and it’s possible that this is the case then you need to think about speaking to a doctor. They'll be able to recommend the right treatment option and explore some of the reasons for your pain. If a doctor dismisses your concerns, then it’s always worth making sure that you get a second opinion.

The danger is that there’s an underlying cause that might have been missed. "Wrongful Death" lawyers you can trust will tell you that the first sign of danger, more often than not, was a pain that was noticed by a patient but wasn’t taken seriously enough by a medical professional. Scary, I know.

Explore Alternative Treatments

Think about exploring some of the different alternative treatments that could help you effectively manage your pain. If typical meds aren’t working or you’re worried about side effects, then there are always other options to consider. For example, you might want to think about trying herbal medicine. Many patients gain fantastic benefits from using herbal medicine and it can be a great form of pain relief.

Other people will find that physical exercises provides the benefits that they need. For instance, aqua therapy can help relax the muscles and ensure that there isn’t extra pressure on areas like the joints in the arms and legs.

You should always speak to an expert about the forms of pain relief that could be beneficial that might help you in the long term.

Change Your Lifestyle

Lifestyle choices are not usually the main cause of chronic pain. But they can make them worse or add to them overtime. So, if you're experiencing significant discomfort, then you might want to think about changing up different elements of your lifestyle.

There are many examples that could be worth considering here. For instance, you might want to think about changing your diet. Research shows that eating the right foods can help the body cope more effectively with issues like pain. Alternatively, you might want to think about giving up unhealthy habits that you've been leaning on, such as smoking.

Exercising more can also help with issues like chronic pain. It gets the blood circulating around the body and this improves the levels of oxygen to your muscles. That can be great if you have recently been experiencing muscle pains and aches that you're struggling to cope with.

Speak To A Therapist

Finally, if your pain isn’t going away then it’s possible that you may want to think about speaking to a therapist. Pain can impact everything from your mood to the way you feel about yourself in general. If you speak to a therapist, it helps you make sure that things don’t get too overwhelming in the long term. You’ll also understand how to channel and interpret your emotions regarding your pain the right way.

I hope this helped you understand some of the best ways to deal with unexplained pain that you might have. As well as why this could impact you. If you take the right steps, then you can guarantee that a pain like this won’t ruin your life or stop you from doing the things that you love.

How to Feel Calm, Confident and in Control

How to Feel Calm, Confident and in Control

It's no big secret that many people believe society places a heavy expectation on women to be ALL things to ALL people. From advertising campaigns that feature women with 'perfect' bodies through to magazines that highlight celebrities' perceived flaws. Everywhere you look, there are images encouraging women to compare themselves to others and live up to an airbrushed ideal. Being exposed to these images regularly means that they become accepted as the norm. This serves to add to the expectation to be perfect in every way.

The fact is, no one's perfect, and why should they be? Differences are to be celebrated and not viewed as an opportunity to compare and criticize. You have to accept your differences. You have to let go of the idea of conforming to other people's notions of "perfect". If you want to feel calmer, more confident, and feel in charge of your life, these tips should help you feel empowered to be all those things.

Choose Your Friends

Unfortunately, it's not just the endless advertising content and media pressure that make us women feel bad about themselves. Instead, criticism can also come from friends and family. Uh, hello, aunt with the loaded comments pointing out that you've gained a few pounds. This is unacceptable, and not something that you should put up with. Friends that criticize and insist that they're only telling you for your own good are not always good people to be around.

Spending time with people that make you feel good, respect you, and value you as you are is vital for your self-esteem. There's already enough pressure out there. You don't want more of it piled on by friends.

Be in the Moment

It's so easy to become overwhelmed by modern life. Social media pressure, demanding bosses, and other commitments. It can mean that you're never able to switch off and fully relax. If you feel like you're stuck on a hamster wheel and unable to stop it spinning, then it's time to take a step back. Being 'on' all the time can seriously drain your energy. You may feel permanently exhausted and constantly stressed out.

Finding a method that enables you to chill out and just be is essential to prevent you from exhausting yourself. Mindfulness is a popular and effective way to learn how to be in the moment. And to stop yourself from getting caught up in your thoughts.

If you often find yourself overthinking and questioning yourself, you may find mindfulness particularly helpful. If you're interested in learning about mindfulness, you'll find that there are many resources you can use, including mindfulness websites and apps.

Feel Empowered by Your Choices

Making decisions and choosing to live life your way is the best way to feel more confident. This level of empowerment gives your self-esteem a huge boost. Decide how you want to live your life. Then take decisive action to make this a reality. This will ensure that you're living in a way that's true to yourself.

Maybe you've decided that you want to run your own business. If so, you could set this idea in motion by taking the first small steps towards making it a reality. And see your dream come true. Perhaps you've decided that you don't want to have kids right now, or at all. In this situation, you may want to research which contraceptive option is best for you - a copper IUD vs mirena. Whatever your situation, and however you want to live your life, taking the first step will empower you to continue to work towards creating a life that you love.

Get Fit on Your Terms

Being fit is not about altering how you look or trying to achieve a lower number on the scale. Being physically fit goes beyond being slim or having toned abs. It's about taking care of yourself. It's about making sure you feel strong and ready for anything that life throws at you.

Rather than aiming to emulate the body of your favorite celebrity, why not focus instead on what you want to achieve by getting fit? Challenging yourself to meet your fitness goals and then working towards them. This is an excellent way to channel your energy into something positive and to build your self-esteem in the process. When you let go of using exercise as merely a means to get a perfect body, you take off a lot of pressure off of yourself.

When it comes to exercising, the most important thing is to choose an activity that you enjoy. Why force yourself to do exercise that doesn't suit you or that you really hate? It makes it difficult to stay motivated and to keep working towards your fitness goals.

There are so many different kinds of workouts available today. Find a few you love doing. Whether you want to learn how to salsa or prefer group fitness classes, you're sure to find a way to exercise that you love.

Take Care of Yourself

Staying calm, being confident, and in control of your life doesn't mean that you need to detach yourself from your feelings and focus solely on self-improvement. It's the opposite. Accepting yourself for who you are and taking steps to transform your life into a life that you love. It's about empowerment rather than improvement. This means understanding what you want from life and then having the confidence to pursue it calmly. Not for the purpose of meeting the expectations of others, but doing it for yourself. And recognizing that you deserve to achieve whatever you want to in life.

By recognizing your own needs, listening to your instincts, and being kind to yourself, you'll break free from expectations and start living on your own terms.

What's The Pandemic Low?

What's The Pandemic Low?

Do you feel like the year is slipping away from you? You're not the only one. We can all agree that 2020 hasn't been a happy year. The corona virus pandemic has been responsible for creating a surge of anxiety.

Today, months later, we have a better understanding of how to stay safe. More and more countries are relaxing their COVID restrictions. However, the prolonged self-isolation has taken its toll. Staying safe at home can affect your mental health. For a lot of people, the accumulation of cancellations, face masks, vaccine uncertainty, and the constantly fluctuating situation is creating a favourable terrain for mild depression.

You've given up on your goals for the year, but the process has left you in a state of mental and emotional limbo. Fighting off the pandemic low is crucial to reclaiming control over your life.

Recognize the early signs

Unlike severe clinical depression, the pandemic low is a more subtle issue. Some essential signs can help you spot the problem. Feeling lethargic - a sense of extreme tiredness combined with a lack of motivation to do anything - could be caused by the pandemic low. You can also notice a shadow of mixed feelings, making it hard to make decisions. When you're uncertain about things, it makes you feel insecure about yourself. This can lead to conflicted emotions and negative feelings. Some people also experience complete indifference, which means they don’t engage emotionally with their surroundings anymore. When left unattended the pandemic low could merge into a more severe case of depression. Be mindful of what's going on inside your own head. Self-awareness goes a long way to help you snap yourself out of it before it’s too late.

Invest in yourself again

Everybody has health concerns that they postpone or ignore. Lack of time is one of the most common reasons. We tell ourselves medical help too expensive, or that we're making mountains out of nothing. In truth, if your health is bothering you, make it a priority to address the issue. Investing in your well-being by researching the best dental payment plans for you or reaching out to a dermatologist to get your acne scars removed can help you feel more confident. The way we look on the outside has an effect on the way we feel inside. More importantly, the process switches your sense of priorities. If like everyone you’ve put your life on hold during the pandemic, investing in your health allows you to press play again and escape the lethargy.

Clean in-depth. Yes, I said CLEAN

What does deep cleaning have to do with your mood? Spending extra time at home means you’re probably on top of your household chores. However, you may want to consider deep cleaning appliances too, such as a carpet washer, for instance, or the addition of an air particle filter at home. The difference will be dramatic. If you think your home is spotless already, you’ll be astonished by the fresh sensation. Bringing clean freshness into your interior means that you can start experimenting with scents to boost your mood. Simply put: A clean and fresh-smelling house can boost your happiness!

Contrary to common belief, the pandemic low doesn’t quite qualify as a depressive mood. As such, a simple change of routine can have a huge effect to help you snap out of it. More importantly, it reminds you of what matters most - your health and the space you're in a.k.a home sweet home.

Until next time,

xoxo

Feeling Lethargic? Here's How To Perk Up Fast

Feeling Lethargic? Here's How To Perk Up Fast

Photo by Tirachard Kumtanom from Pexels
Feeling lethargic can negatively impact your whole life if it’s a problem you’re having to deal with most days. After a night of interrupted sleep, you might feel lethargic, but if it’s a problem that you can’t seem to find an explanation for, you may need to try a number of solutions before you land on something that really seems to help you perk up. Whether you’ve got a packed to-do list that you’re tired of falling behind on, or you simply want to have the energy you need to enjoy life, the ideas here can help you to perk up quickly and avoid lethargy in the long run.

Work On Sleep Quality
You might think you’re getting 8 hours sleep, but if your sleep quality is off then no amount of sleep will feel like enough. Sleep quality can suffer due to a number of lifestyle factors that you’ll need to work on if you’re going to get better. For example, drinking caffeine is fine, but if you drink it too close to bedtime then you will likely struggle to drift off and toss and turn. You can also improve your sleep quality by:
  • Removing technology from the bedroom.
  • Investing in blackout blinds or curtains.
  • Having a wind-down routine that is at least one hour before you sleep.
  • Exercising earlier on in the day to get rid of excess energy.
  • Writing out a to-do list for the next day so that everything is out of your head.
Make Sure You’re Eating A Balanced Diet
Balanced diets require protein, fats, and carbs. Carbs are not the enemy - we need them to have the energy to function! If you’re unsure of how to go about this, have a portion of protein, fats, and carbs with each meal. Make sure you’re also eating plenty of fruit and vegetables. You can use an app to track what you’re eating if you’re worried you’re still not getting the balance right.

Visit Your Doctor For Tests
Sometimes, lethargy could be due to a much deeper problem. You may have an iron deficiency, in which case iron deficiency tablets will give you the energy boost you need. Even a potassium deficiency could negatively impact your energy levels. Your doctor will be able to tell you more, so make an appointment.

Take A Cold Shower
A cold shower might not be the most pleasurable way to spend your time, but staying under the cold water for just 30 seconds could shock your body and give you a massive cognitive boost!

Try A New Beverage
Many people rely on coffee to get them through the day, but if it’s not working for you, you may want to try something else. Yerba mate is a drink that can give you great energy without the highs and lows.

Take A Walk Outside
I know it's COVID times, but if possible, get outside for some fresh air and exercise, even if it’s only for a short time. And yes, even in Bahrain's humidity.

Do More Of The Things You Love
We can sometimes feel lethargic because we aren't doing enough of the things that excite us. Make sure you’re putting time aside for whatever it is you love to do.

To summarize, being aware of how you're feeling and doing heaps of self-care goes a long way in feeling energetic and happy. Good sleep, fresh air, exercise, being aware of what you're eating and drinking, good nutrition and doing the things you love should help you get out of that slump you recently find yourself in.

Until next time,

xoxo

How To Improve Your Diet & Eating Habits

How To Improve Your Diet & Eating Habits

Eating healthy is going to make you feel better overall, and you’ll likely find you have fewer health issues. If you’re sick and tired of your poor eating habits and are ready for a change, then you’ve come to the right place. It starts by you being motivated and dedicated to making wiser choices so that you can avoid the adverse side effects that come from eating poorly.
There are a few ways, in particular, that will help improve your diet and eating habits so that you can get your wellness back on track. Changing your behaviour isn’t always easy and may take some trial and error, so be kind to yourself as you adjust and make changes to your daily routine.

Keep A Food Journal

You can improve your diet and eating habits by keeping a food journal and documenting what you’re putting into your body all day. It won’t take you very long to do and will be an excellent way for you to turn your eating habits around quickly. You may realize that you’re eating the wrong foods or are overeating at mealtime. I’ll also help you not cheat yourself and be honest about what you’re choosing to put in your body when you write it down. It’s a great reality check that creates awareness around your eating habits and food choices so you can make better decisions in the future.

Read Nutrition Labels

Another way to improve your diet and eating habits is to read nutrition labels. There’s a lot you can learn by taking a quick look at this information and these details. Stay away from saturated fats and focus on consuming foods that are high in fibre and protein. The writing and labels can be small, so make sure you invest in a good pair of glasses if you have bad eyes. You can check out some options here and save yourself time and money by ordering a new pair of eyewear online.

Cook at Home

Buy a healthy-recipe book and cook for yourself to improve your diet and eating habits. Eating out is not only more expensive, but you’re likely consuming more calories and fat than what is healthy for you. You have control over what ingredients you put in your body and portion sizes when you make your own food and meals at home. It can also be an enjoyable and relaxing activity for you if you get the hang of it. You may want to challenge yourself to difficult recipes as you get better at cooking and want to put your skills to the test.

Clean out Your Fridge & Pantry

You’re setting yourself up for struggle right from the start if your house is full of unhealthy foods and snacks. Therefore, improve your diet and eating habits by taking the time to clean out your fridge and pantry and stock and organize your kitchen with nutritious options. You won’t feel enticed to grab cookies or chips if all you have are other healthy alternatives in your fridge and pantry that provide more nutritional value for you. You may miss these treats initially, but eventually, you’ll notice that you feel better when you eat healthily throughout the day.

Plan Ahead for Work & Travel

It’s easy to make excuses and fall off track when you don’t prepare in advance. Plan ahead for when you’re not at home, such as for work and travel. Improve your diet and eating habits by packing a lunch and healthy snacks for the office, so you’re not tempted to eat out. Also, when you travel, make sure you fill your plate with nutritious options and stay away from sweets and caffeine. Commit to your new eating habits no matter where you are so that you don’t let all the hard work you’re doing at home go to waste.

Conclusion

You should now feel empowered and knowledgeable about how you can improve your diet and eating habits. It’s an excellent first step in helping you live a healthier lifestyle so that you can have more natural energy and improve your mood. The foods you eat have a significant impact on your physical and mental health and wellness. Any positive changes you can start making now will set you up for a brighter future where you experience better health and happiness. Be willing to experiment and give these ideas a try so that you can see for yourself what a difference they make in your life.
Until next time,
xoxo
