6 pencil skirt looks for the office

6 pencil skirt looks for the office

Pencil skirts are awesome formal wear pieces. They're versatile, letting you dress them up or down. You can wear them with almost all your tops- t- shirts, flowy blouses, tank tops, button-downs, or layer with a jacket/ blazer. They look good on most body types, and are widely available.

They're definitely a staple in my wardrobe, and I have quite a few of them in different colors. Here are 6 different looks I've done with pencil skirts on the blog.

Look 1

I wore my black pencil skirt with a short-sleeved red blouse, and a mint blazer on top. Simple silver jewelry and black pumps completed this look. Full post

Look 2
In this look I wore a long-sleeved olive green top with a white pencil skirt. I added a red belt for a pop of color and matched red pumps and an envelope clutch to it. I wore a statement necklace in white to set off the skirt. Full post

Look 3

I kept it simple here by pairing a baby pink blouse with a black skirt. A statement watch and a bejeweled cuff keep the look smart. I chose blue pumps for another burst of color, and a statement bag keeps the look professional. Full post

Look 4

In this look I went for blue on blue, choosing to wear a full-sleeved satin blouse in royal blue with this royal blue skirt. I toned down the color with a black clutch and black heels. Full post

Look 5

I tucked a pink t-shirt into a white skirt in this outfit, and finished with royal blue pumps. I acessorized with a long colorful bead necklace and a gold cuff. A neutral statement bag completed this semi-formal look. Full post

Look 6

Button-downs go great with pencil skirts and here I wore a navy blue silk button-down with my white skirt. I wore a thin black belt on top of the skirt to add interest. I accessorized with golden jewelry, wearing a golden necklace inside the collar of the shirt, and a golden bracelet, ring and leather watch. I finished the look with beige heels with gold embellishments, and a neutral bag. Full post

Hopefully I've inspired you to try out different pencil skirt outfits for the office. They're even great for dinners and events. Get a few of them in basic colors, so you can mix and match them with different tops and create lots of looks.

 Until next time,

xoxo

Six Different Ways To Wear Pink Jeans

Six Different Ways To Wear Pink Jeans

Colored jeans are a big favorite of mine and these baby pink ones I wear a LOT. From top left, here are 6 different ways I styled mine-

1. With a teal top and a red leather jacket. Teal contrasts well with pink and I kept the jacket within the same color family as pink, so it doesn't clash. I kept the shoes neutral with nude pumps.

2. With a white silk blouse. This is a simple, feminine look because of the softness of the silk blouse. I added black booties to toughen the look up a bit.

3. With a mint tee. This look is completely casual and great for running errands. Strappy sandals and a big tan satchel bag completed the look.

4. With a gray top. Pink and gray are a match made in heaven. A floral necklace and strappy sandals finished the look.

5. With a purple blouse. All the vibrant color on me made it necessary that I tone it down with black shoes and a clutch.

6. With a red sweater. This is a fairly simple look, but the addition of big earrings, a clutch and dressy shoes, it's taken up a few notches.

So don't be afraid to wear colored jeans thinking it won't go with other items in your closet. It can either be paired with a neutral color, a color in the same color family, or contrasted with one.

xoxo

5 Ways I Styled This Red Top

5 Ways I Styled This Red Top

Red is my favorite color. That's no new news. {Try saying that five times fast.} So it's obvious this red top from Zara is one of my absolute fave pieces in my wardrobe. It's the perfect length, has short, mega sleeves, and a key-hole and pleats at the neck. The material is light and silky. If you're wondering why I don't have more outfit pictures in this top, it's because I've deliberately stopped myself from wearing it for more blog posts and boring you. I've had this top for more than three years now, and it still has pride of place in my closet. That's the thing about quality, timeless pieces. They stay in your wardrobe forever and you still reach for them when you want to dress up.
Here's how I styled this top in these five looks:

1. Untucked with formal beige trousers, and a swishy gun-metal gray sweater. {It was winter and rainy. This pic is from a long time ago. Look how short my hair is!}. I added a long black beaded necklace and gray peep-toe heels.
2. I tucked it into a knee-length A-line black skirt and added a beaded belt. Nude pumps finished the look.
3. Worn with a beige ruffled skirt, a black statement ring and black Mary Janes. Simple and cute.
4. Here I kept it casual by tucking it into light blue jeans. I added a thin blue belt and matching handbag. A thick bangle and pink pumps kept the look playful.
5. Tucked into denim shorts, I wanted this look to be slightly fierce so I wore my laced booties and studded red envelope clutch. I wore colorful glass bangles to keep it looking sweet.

What's interesting is that I no longer have the trousers and the skirts from the first three looks, but I still have the top!

4 Ways To Wear A Black Maxi Dress

4 Ways To Wear A Black Maxi Dress

A black maxi dress is a gorgeous basic to have in your closet. Just the dress can be worn to different places and is perfect to throw on when you can't think of anything to wear or when you're in a hurry. Mine is from Jeanswest and I've worn it countless times. Here's how I wore it 4 different ways:

Clockwise from top left:
1. Just the dress, worn simply with stacked colourful bangles on both hands.
2. Tie a chambray shirt over the maxi and add a necklace and bangles.
3. A red leather jacket and aviator sunnies ups the fierceness of the dress.
4. I added a pretty tasseled belt and a statement beaded necklace to switch it up.

7 Ways To Style a Black Pencil Skirt

7 Ways To Style a Black Pencil Skirt

A black pencil skirt is the most basic, easy-to-style piece. Your wardrobe is incomplete without one. It can go from day to night, formal to casual, and dressy to glam, with just a few changes. Mine's from Zara. It's the perfect blend of stretch, comfort and elegance. It has a full zipper at the back which makes it super-easy to wear. From top left, this is how I've styled it 7 different ways:

1. A loose, slouchy blouse, and black pumps are great for a semi-casual day look.
2. A simple, classy white shirt goes great with a black pencil skirt. I added tall boots to turn it up a notch.
3. A sleeveless top, thin silver bangles and white pumps make this look perfect for a night on the town with the girls.
4. A dressier style, I wore a delicate blouse, a semi-wide belt, and Mary Jane pumps. I added the blue bag for a pop of colour.
5. This billowy blouse was great to make this look playful. I love the combination of tall tan boots with the black of the skirt.
6. This is a very grown-up, elegant, yet cheery look. A masculine blouse looks amazing with a pencil skirt as the skirt is feminine and fitting, sharply contrasting to the slouchiness of the top.
7. For this look I wore a floral blouse, pink pumps and knotted a thin blue belt on top of the skirt. Perfect for the office!

The best thing about a pencil skirt is that it suits almost all body types. It even adds curves to straight bodies like mine, and a black one slims the silhouette. Choose one that stops just above the knee, in a thick material that's easy to get on and off, and you have a piece that you can style a million ways. Ok, not a million, but you know what I mean. xxx

Red Jeans Remix

Red Jeans Remix

I absolutely love that the coloured jeans trend didn't just stay a trend because they're such a great way to make your outfits interesting. Blue jeans are so blasé. My first pair of coloured jeans were these red ones from Zara. How I love them. They're like blue jeans because most colours go with them, but not as boring. My favourite colour with red is white, but they go well with black, camel, blue, violet, gray and even print. You can dress them up, you can dress them down, or just throw them on when you're feeling powerless. These are 8 ways I've styled them, and I'd love to wear them with bright yellow for a summery bright on bright look. You'll be seeing that soon!

4 Ways of Wearing A Pleated Maxi Skirt

4 Ways of Wearing A Pleated Maxi Skirt

Maxi skirts are all the rage now. They're comfortable and can be styled in oh-so-many-ways. So today I thought I'd show you four ways I've worn my royal blue pleated maxi skirt.
Worn with a semi-formal top in a contrasting colour and nude heels with minimal accessories, this is a good look for work or formal occasions.
Here I paired the skirt with a graphic printed tee. I knotted a thin black belt at the waist, and added chunky bangles and a necklace. I finished with ballet flats. It's all about the accessories in this look.
I kept this look very casual by wearing a pink racer-back sleeveless top and gladiator flats. The accessories are delicate- a small necklace and tiny earrings. This is a great day look and perfect for summer.
A white vintage tee, denim jacket and a tan belt make this outfit. The red bag adds a nice pop of colour. The only jewelery I'm wearing are big rings on each hand. The denim jacket makes this look casual and relaxed.

There you have it. Four looks with my pleated maxi skirt. I can't believe I haven't worn this baby more. I need to wear it again soon. Watch this space!

Hope you're having a good week! xxx

6 Ways of Wearing A Little Red Blazer

6 Ways of Wearing A Little Red Blazer

It's all about colour this season, from pastels to brights to deep jewel tones. And a blazer need not just be a neutral colour anymore. Which is why I heart my bright red H&M blazer and thought I'd show you six different ways I've worn it:

Colour blocking with a contrasting blue top, worn with light jeans to keep the focus on the top half.

Keeping it girly and feminine by wearing it over a pale pink camisole top.

Worn with my navy blue dress. Very sailorish!

Paired with a long pink top, formal black trousers and blue heels. I love red and pink together.

Here I kept the rest of the outfit monochrome and used the blazer for a nice pop of colour. And turned the lapels up to give it an edge.

Worn with a black dress and chunky black heels to bring out the contrast.

So if you thought a black blazer is versatile, try one in a bright colour to jazz up your outfits. Next on my wishlist is a mint green blazer. And a candy pink one. And canary yellow. Oh never mind.
