Little Delights Tuesday and a Diary of Compliments

I'd been thinking for quite some time that it's really funny how I tend to remember the jibes/ sarcastic remarks/ negative comments from people but not the numerous compliments and kind words that are said to me in a day. So I decided I should start a Compliments Diary. A book in which I'll write down any compliments people give me. Two days back, I started it. I've already filled a page of it, and there are many compliments/ nice words I keep remembering and that need to be put down. I think it's a great way to end the day. I'd highly recommend it, because by the time you finish writing, the entire day's tiredness and fatigue drain away and you're suddenly smiling. And the best part? You have nice words about you written down that you can read anytime you're feeling low.

Little Delights:
  • Watching my car's rear view mirror pulsate with the beats of the music playing in the car. Yeah, I play the music really loud.
  • Finding this black pencil skirt on sale in Zara for BD 10. YAY! (I've been wanting one ever since my last one from Mango became loose and I had to give it away)
  • While I was driving on the highway last week two bike riders rode up next to my car, waved at me, then proceeded to do wheelies right in front of my car. Then they rode away, leaving me laughing.
  • Really windy days like today. Even though it makes my hair fly in all possible directions and makes me have to take a zillion photos to get five right, I love the weather!
  • This sweet follower on twitter, @RJJay , sent me the lyrics of the song My Favourite Things because I tweeted that I was feeling low. She tweeted:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

I absolutely LOVE the song (and the movie of course). Her tweet made my day and that definitely made an addition to my Compliments Diary.
Here's the song, enjoy!

A few quick pointers on heels...

Dress: Playlife, Cardi: Zara, Belt: French Connection, Shoes; Dorothy Perkins, Earrings: Vintage, Rings: Accessorize.
Hype this look on lookbook.nu here.

Since I did an androgynous look yesterday, I just had to throw on a dress and heels today. These are 5.5 inches high. The 6 inch heel still eludes me, but I WILL find it. I still get asked by a lot of people how I can walk in them. To which I always want to reply, "By putting one foot in front of another, moron", but I don't because my mother taught me to be polite. But seriously ladies, it's not at all difficult walking in heels. Here are a few quick pointers on wearing heels:
  • If you've never worn heels before, I'd recommend starting with 3.5 inch heels. Not 3 inch or kitten heels. Because...well...they're just plain ugly. Moving on...
  • Make sure they're very comfortable and of your size when you try them on. Don't buy heels that are smaller than your size no matter how gorgeous they look. Comfort is key.
  • Try wiggling your toes when they're on. If you can wiggle them, they'll be easy to walk in.
  • Try to find platform heels, like the ones I'm wearing. (Mine are double platforms.) If the platform is 2 inches high and the heel is 5.5 inches, then 2 subtracted from 5.5 makes the heel only 3.5 inches high. You get a shoe that's more stable and easy to walk in, plus you're taller because of the platform.
  • The shoe will expand. So if it's in your size but still a little tight, go home, put on thick socks and walk around the house to break them in. You can also do this if it's your first pair of heels.

Now go get yourself some height. xox

I'd rather be... real and lonely than fake and popular.
I'd rather be... flawed than perfect.
I'd rather be... healthy than thin.

My pink heels and a surprise Christmas gift!

I HAVE PINK SHOES! Ok, to be specific, I have pink round-toed high-heeled court shoes. (Because I already have pink shoes). But I've been wanting these for A-G-ES! And I have them now...(doing a little happy dance). I recently got them from New Look and I wore them for the first time today. It was one of those days where I got out of bed, got dressed, and really, REALLY wanted to get under the covers again. I was soooo sleepy. And my tooth was aching so bad. But I'm so glad I did get my butt out of the house. Because one, I love these pink heels so much that I kept staring at them and feeling happy. Two, early in the morning I got a surprise Christmas gift! My colleague Ingrid popped into our department, kept a small jar on my desk, said "Merry Christmas" and left. When I opened it, it was a jar of chocolate-covered nuts.

My day, made.

Moral of the story? Get outta the house and just GO! Even when you're bloody sleepy and you've got an aching tooth. Nice things might happen. You never know!

Whimsical orangeness

I'm in a whimsical mood today so I just felt like draping myself with this wrap. I love the bright colours and the intricate crochet. It's really soft and comfy. Even though it's not very cold today, this felt so snuggly and cozy I wanted to be wrapped in it. And I don't mind that I feel like an old lady in it! I like it. Go figure.

My new New Look shoes and Androgyny

Hello! The lovely people at New Look decided to gift me some gorgeous footwear! They let me pick out three pairs of my choice, and I picked out the ones above! I really, really needed shiny black courts, so I got these lovely ones (I'm wearing them today). Don't you love the lace on the ankle detailing? Feminine yet fierce. So me. And how could I resist these pink courts?

And this is what I wore today.

Button-down and Belt: Mango, Blazer and Necklace: Gifted, Pants: Zara, Shoes and ring on right hand: New Look, ring on left hand: Posh, Watch: Swatch

I was in the mood for some androgyny today. Usually I stay away from looks that are too masculine, so I added the feminine touch with the heels, necklace and my hair down.
I don't believe in dressing for women. This chica dresses for the men and men only .
I don't like women who come too close to looking like a guy. You're a beautiful woman, celebrate your feminity. And if you're reading this wearing a baggy sweatshirt and loose jeans, babe, I'm talking to YOU!

Snarf and boots at the beach.

Moayyed's way of making Snarf give out hugs.
Today was a fun family day. I picked my older brother Moayyed from the airport (he lives in Dubai and visits often), and we went over to my mom's for lunch. My younger brother Arif who lives with my folks has a pet cat. He's called Snarf. That's Moayyed and Snarf in the photo above. I had a lovely time playing with Snarf and watching the usual tomfoolery that happens when all five of us are together. For instance, my mom (her name's Sughra. Remember it. It comes up later) told Moayyed that she still has the telegram that her brother sent to my father when my mom delivered Moayyed in India. The telegram said: "Sughra delivered a baby boy." at which Arif instantly replied, "Sughra delivered a baby devil."

I died laughing.

Anyway, here are pictures of Snarf...and me...
Snarf trying to get my attention.
And then me trying to get Snarf's attention. Who do you think won?

This was too cute to not take a picture.

He's so big I like to pretend he's a 2 year old human baby. So does he.

After lunch, Arif and I went to Asry beach and took these pictures. I know, I know, I'm wearing boots at the beach. But it was a spontaneous decision to go to the beach and take photos. And who says you can't wear boots to the beach? If I were Queen of the Fashion World I'd make a law that you can wear boots anywhere, anytime in any season. So there.

My Goan Scarf and Bahrain's National Day

Sweater: Jane Norman, Top: Mango, Scarf: from Goa, Jeans: Dorothy Perkins, Boots: Payless, Rings- on right hand: Gifted, left: Posh.
Hype this look on lookbook.nu here.

This is what I was wearing yesterday. I love this scarf. It's really scruffy and warm, and the colours are so cheerful. I bought it on a trip to Goa years ago. Scroll down to see what I did today!

Today Bahrain celebrates it's 40th National Day. Most of the streets were lit-up with beautiful fairy lights. I loved the lit-up Bahraini emblems hung from the trees. I think almost everyone was out on the streets celebrating. Such a lovely feeling after all the tension we've been having! We've got holidays until Tuesday for National Day celebrations. Woohoo!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend!
