Why I started this blog

I often get asked- Why a fashion blog? What made you start it?

Firstly, it's not a fashion blog. It's a lifestyle blog. MY lifestyle blog. I write about my life, and show my style.

I love writing. I've always maintained multiple diaries, journals, and I even used to write poetry when I was in high school. I have a love affair with words. {Ergo why reading is one of my obsessions.} I love expressing myself through the written word. {Which is why I lurve twitter! Click here if you wanna follow me on twitter.}

Second, I love fashion. I'm not a huge fan of the industry and how it works, but I love personal style. How someone can easily portray an image of themselves just by what they wear on a daily basis fascinates me.

So this blog is me, documenting my life, my style, through words and pictures. I love putting outfits together but more than that I love writing about how my day has been or what I've been up to recently or my philosophy on life. Which is why The Silver Kick Diaries. One of my favourite things to do is to go through my blog and see the changes and transitions in my style, my life, and even my way of thinking.

I started this blog to give ladies style inspiration as I was constantly asked where I bought that top/ dress/ shoes/ bag, and how did I think of putting that top with that skirt, those shoes with that outfit, etc. But gradually it has evolved into something that's very personal and very close to my heart. Which is why I believe in having the best quality of posts. I want to look back at my posts, my writing and my outfits and smile. So when some of you complain that you're not seeing more of my posts recently, I'd rather let you wait a few more days than just post some half-hearted rubbish. If you've been following me some time you know I simply don't do half-hearted. It's just not in my DNA. {You wouldn't believe the number of pictures I've deleted because I didn't think they were up to the mark, even though I spent an hour deciding on what to wear and another on taking the pics. I take over an hour just writing the few lines below the pictures because I write, edit, re-edit, re-re-edit, and when I'm truly happy with it, it gets published.}

Lastly, I've never claimed to be a style maven/ fashion expert. My style is based on my personality and what I feel like wearing, and my suggestions, views, opinions and recommendations are my own. Some of you agree with them, some don't, and I'm okay with that. As long as I'm doing what makes me happy and I'm able to make some of you smile, this blog serves its purpose.

An evening with friends

Friends, laughter, gorgeous weather, ridiculous conversations and the best Cookies 'n' Cream milkshake at the cutest little seaside cafe. It's days like these that should never end.

I have a penchant for pink and blue

Top: TSKD Designs, Skirt: Coast. Shoes: Miss Selfridge, Bag: Jane Norman, Bangle: Gifted, Necklace: DIY.
I admit, I love the colours. Ever since I got this gorgeous pencil skirt from Coast I've had this outfit in my head. The funny thing is that I also had the shoes to perfectly match the top. This handbag is a recent purchase. I've wanted a drawstring pouch bag for a long time but you know me and my habit of waiting until I get exactly what I want {it's a blessing and a curse, trust me}. Ancy spotted this in Jane Norman, hidden somewhere in the back. I'm so glad she did. I usually want colourful bags to add a pop of colour to an outfit but then you also need neutrals to complement a bright outfit like this one. And this is so much better than a stark white one. The gold details add the perfect touch of class while the tassel keeps it looking casual. Now before I end up writing a sonnet on this bag, I think I should stop. Good night!

If I could give you one tip for this summer...

If I could give you one tip for this summer, sunscreen would be it. This is not my version of Baz Luhrmann's song, I'm serious. I live in a place where the sun shines almost all year round and temperatures go upto 55°C. Yes, really. The sun turns my skin brown{er} and I wouldn't really mind it except then I have to replace all my make up because it doesn't match my skin tone anymore and that can get a leetle expensive so I'd rather wear sunscreen.

TOO MUCH SUN IS HARMFUL TO THE SKIN AND WILL LEAD TO PREMATURE AGEING, WRINKLES AND HYPER-PIGMENTATION. THAT'S THE MAIN REASON I WEAR SUNSCREEN, I WAS JUST TRYING TO BE FUNNY BEFORE.

Ok, now that we've got that cleared up and you know how important sunscreen is, I'll tell you about my favourite product. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock. I frikkin' love this thing. My skin is oilier than Saudi Arabia, and most sunscreens are greasy and heavy on the skin. But not this one. It really delivers on what it says- 'Feels clean and weightless'.  If you're looking for a great sunscreen, this is it. Slightly more expensive than others, but completely worth it and lasts for long. SPF 50 is good enough for me but if you feel like going higher if you tan easy, then do.

Protect your face. Wear sunscreen. If not this one, whatever you like. And that goes for whether you're young, old, boy or girl. Oh, and if I still haven't convinced you of the importance of wearing sunscreen, go to this link to see what sun damage can do to your face. Ta!

Don't be a walking-talking billboard

Top: H&M, Skirt: Lipsy, Jacket: Debenhams, Necklace & Earrings set: Gifted, Shoes: New Look. Photos: Arif Feroze.
I love this new tweed  panelled jacket I got from Debenhams. I love the structure and that it's not completely black. The colours in the jacket match my skirt nicely. I matched my shoes to my top, and added dark gray beaded jewelry to set off the black of the jacket.
While taking these photos, this lady came up to me and asked me if I'm a model. After explaining that I'm not and this is for my blog, we got to talking and had a really nice discussion about Bahrain, Arab beauty and how too many young girls in this region are brand victims. She had a really funny way of putting it- "These girls buy a bag just because it has a Christian Dior 'D' on it. They don't even see that the design of the bag is boring and looks like it's from years ago." I couldn't agree more. Buy clothes that are you. That reflect your personality, style, and most importantly, that are comfortable and practical for you. Don't be a walking-talking billboard for designer logos.

Red Jeans Remix

I absolutely love that the coloured jeans trend didn't just stay a trend because they're such a great way to make your outfits interesting. Blue jeans are so blasé. My first pair of coloured jeans were these red ones from Zara. How I love them. They're like blue jeans because most colours go with them, but not as boring. My favourite colour with red is white, but they go well with black, camel, blue, violet, gray and even print. You can dress them up, you can dress them down, or just throw them on when you're feeling powerless. These are 8 ways I've styled them, and I'd love to wear them with bright yellow for a summery bright on bright look. You'll be seeing that soon!
