From Hate To Love and Soothing Storms

I absolutely didn't like this material when Sajida of Saji's Couture showed it to me. I usually don't wear these kinds of prints. But when she described what kind of top she wanted to make from it, I agreed. The first version of the top had ruffles at the neck as well, which I didn't like. So Sajida changed it to the same pearls that are there on the sleeves, and I loved it.

I love the neckline with the pearls on it so much. They look so beautiful and delicate sitting perched on the top. I wish I had put my hair up so it could have been shown off better. The blue part in the print in the top with its paisley swirls gives it a retro feel, while the geometric shapes make it look modern and edgy. The pearls tie all of it together by bringing in an element of sophistication.

My favourite part about this top, is, of course, the sleeves. You know that I'm such a sucker for dramatic and inventive sleeves, so it's not a surprise how much I love the sleeves on this top. The pearls running down vertically playing peek-a-boo is a genius way to incorporate them and add more interest. The ruffles on the end are layered and cover half your hand, making them feel so elegant and feminine. I have no idea why long sleeves that cover your hands look and feel feminine, they just do. They also elongate your arms, giving you a longer and slimmer silhouette. I love that there are different textures in this top- the silkiness of the material against the stiffness and structure of the ruffles.

I paired an A-line black skirt with the blouse. Black is always such a great contrast with bright yellow. It gives a lot of dimension to the whole look. Other than the zipper details on the belt, the skirt is plain and a safe neutral for the bright print. The A-line structure matches the shape of the bell sleeve making the look feel put together.

I wore golden accessories with blush shades to add some more soft colours to the outfit. My floral white bag matches the sleeves and the white in the top's print. I finished with ankle-strap heels in light grey. I love how preppy the heels look with their Mary Jane-ish straps. The bag and the heels add detail around the skirt and go with the details of the top.

I always love playing with textures in an ensemble, and this look has so many different ones in it. The top has two different materials plus the pearls, and the skirt is a thick and slightly stretchy material which is an opposite of the thin and silky top. I would love to try this top with a coloured bottom, maybe in a shade of blue that brings out the blue in the print, or even white. Other contrasting colours such as forest green and deep purple would also look amazing with it.

I have been enjoying the thunderstorms this last week. I find storms very soothing. They always make me sleepy. I just want to be under a blanket while it pours down and you can hear thunderclaps and see flashes of lightning. This weather is so gorgeous. It's incredible how big a part the weather plays on your mood. For example, today was cool and breezy and just lovely. A day to just sit outside, feel the breeze on your face as you stare up at the clouds. I think I can start the layering pretty soon! I wore all my beautiful knits and sweaters when I was in France and Italy earlier this year, but none here in Bahrain. I hope we have a nice winter if only so that I can get to wear my winter things. I know, I'm so selfless.

I write in detail about summer wear, winter wear and basics of fashion in my book, Loving Yourself In Style. The book is about living the best life you can while looking fabulous all the time. Check it out if that sounds interesting to you and you like my straightforward and honest way of writing. And oh, it's filled with lots of pretty watercolour illustrations by yours truly.

Next week, at this time I'll be in India. I can't believe that I'll be missing this beautiful Bahrain weather, but I should have thought of that before I booked my tickets. Sigh.

Until next time,

xoxo
