Polka Dots and Fuchsia + How New Years Irritate Me

I'm not a fan of polka dots usually. They look too in-your-face-60s-tacky. But I liked this top because the dots on this are tiny, neat and discreet. And navy is always an elegant colour. The material is polyester but has a soft chiffon-like feel to it. I love love LOVE the sleeves. They're three-quarter in length, and the flare is subtle, making them look chic. Flare sleeves can look quite dramatic but when done like this, they can look super-elegant. The high-neck and the gathering there lend it a formal, sophisticated edge. This just may be the perfect pretty summer work blouse.

These pants were love-at-first-sight. You know me and my love of pink. I love bright pants as they look good on my long legs. Please don't mistake this for me flattering myself, I'm only pointing out a quirk of my weirdly-proportioned body. Red and pink look great with my colouring, especially hot pink. I love the energy of this bright and happy colour. I can't seem to get enough. I have loads of items in it- a long coat, top, a sweater, dresses, bags, and a sports top. I love how it pops against neutral shades of grey, tan, beige and stone. Which is why I finished the outfit with nude heels and a taupe bag. I talk more about styling with colour in my book Loving Yourself In Style. The book is available online on Amazon and Kobo, and in Jashanmal stores in Bahrain.

I took these photos when it was warmer. Now it feels like it's become cold overnight. The next photos you'll be seeing will be me swathed in jackets and scarves. If I ever summon the courage to take outfit photos in the cold, that is. I don't know how other bloggers living in colder countries do it. Wearing pencil skirts in the snow, no less! Brr! I can only think of wearing pants while cursing and complaining about the lack of warm pants in Bahrain.

Work has started to become chaotic again as the year comes to a close. I have a bit of travel to look forward to towards the end of the year. So hurray for that! What I am NOT looking forward to, is the usual end-of-2017 stuff. The silly lists of the inane things that happened during the year. Yes I know that so-and-so happened in 2017, I was alive! I'm not much of one to look back over a year. I'm too focused and excited about what's ahead. And the 'New Year' doesn't excite me. It's a change of date, ho-hum. What's there to party about. {This is the introvert me talking. If you love to ring in the new year with massive celebrations, then more power to you!}. But I'll tell you what I do like about a new year. The new year stationery! New calendars, planners, etc. I haven't gotten around to getting myself anything yet though since I'm swamped with work and classes. But soon I'll find some time and purchase some pretty-pretty floral calendars and planners online.

What about you? What excites you about a new year?

Top: H&M, Pants: Zara, Shoes: New Look, Bag, Watch, Earrings: Gifted
