When things aren't adding up in life, try subtracting.

The last few months have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. I tried my hands {and mind} at various ideas. I came very close to doing many things, but either I gave them up at the last minute or they gave me up. And I'm glad. Because I may not yet be crystal clear on what I'm going to do, but at least I'm clear on what I don't want to do. I've always used the process of elimination to find out where my heart truly lies. I think it makes life much easier knowing that certain jobs/ activities/ mindsets and even people are just not for you. Like a horse wearing blinders, it makes it easier for you to focus on what and who it is that truly makes you feel alive. I admit it's difficult to let go of comfort zones, ideas and even relationships, but once you do, you feel so much free-er. So if you''re feeling lost, and things aren't adding up in life, I suggest you try subtracting.

Happy Tuesday!

Bows on my shoes make me very happy indeed.

You can't beat black when it comes to dressing up for formal occasions. I usually avoid it because I love colours so much, but sometimes, only black can weave a certain magic. Today I put together a top and skirt {looks like a dress right? I know, that's the magic of separate pieces, they're so versatile!} by Miss Selfridge, and added stockings for that extra edge of sophistication. I've been dying to debut these crazy-gorgeous heels ever since I got them and these stockings and the black outfit really make their pale colour and gorgeousness pop. And how cute is this top? I love the tie detail at the back. My low twisted bun completed the look. Let me know if you ladies want to know how to do this bun and maybe I'll do a tutorial on it!

Happy Birthday Dad

Dear Dad, on your birthday I just wanted to say thank you. For teaching me that a punch should always be thrown from the shoulder. For telling me when I was 13 to walk like I'm 16, shoulders back and head proud, so that I always command respect. For telling me there is nothing I can't do that my brothers did. For the gorgeous cheekbones I inherited from you. For making me this ridiculously fearless as I am today. You're the strongest man I know and my eternal hero. I love you.

Big skirts and bangles

Vest: Zara, Bolero: Chica, Skirt and Earrings: Gifted, Bangles: TSKD. Photos: Arif Feroze
This skirt! OMG! It has the biggest circumference of any maxi gypsy skirt I've owned! It's sooo much fun to twirl around in! All I want to do when I'm wearing it is pretend to be a flamenco dancer. My mom got it for me on her last trip to India. Whenever I wear skirts like this and show my mom, twirling around happily {while she gives me an exasperated 'when will this girl grow up' look} she tells me that since I was a child I'd love wearing big skirts or dresses with a big flair and then I'd twirl around with glee. My addiction for bangles is also since childhood. On trips to India a dear aunt would take me to the jewelry market and buy me tonnes and tonnes of colourful glass bangles. I wouldn't take them off until I ended up breaking them while playing and running around. Thankfully now they make bangles that are sturdier because I definitely haven't stopped playing and running around!

Hope you're having a good day! xxx

While writing this I just noticed that all my accessories today are new, except for the earrings. I love this ring my mom surprised me with a few days ago. The bangles are also a gift from her. And how amazing are these t-strap heels? I love the colour! Goes perfectly with my neon pink necklace from Posh. Alright, I think I've bored you enough with details about my accessories! Hope you're having a good day!

Beauty's where you find it.

It's weird how when you've lived too long in a place you become blind to it's beauty. Having lived in Bahrain all my life that's exactly what's happened. I'm just really glad that through my blog I'm rediscovering this gorgeous country. It's grown tremendously and even though it's small it's got it's pockets of breathtaking loveliness. And in any case, if seen through the right eyes (or a camera lens!), you find beauty anywhere.

Happy Saturday! xxx

DIY Coloured Jewelry

I recently saw a post on The Sparkly Life about how to make a DIY neon necklace. I loved the idea, tried it out and made myself some coloured jewelry!

Here's how I did it.

You'll need:
Nail polish
Any rhinestone jewelry. {I used my mom's. You can buy cheap ones from any shop or online.}
Cotton buds.
A paper or paper plate to keep the jewelry on.
This necklace and earring set is ages old. It's definitely vintage and my mom wasn't wearing it anymore. Perfect for me!
Carefully paint the rhinestones with the nail polish, avoiding the prongs. If you get it on the prongs or any other part of the jewelry, use the cotton buds to wipe it off.
Two coats of nail polish give the stones a great opaque effect. Let dry and you've got yourself brand new colourful jewelry!
How simple is that? I've even tried it on oxidised silver jewelry and it's great! Here's a necklace that I painted over with a pale pink colour
Since learning this I've dug out more vintage jewelry from my mom's treasure chest and I'm painting, painting, painting! Try it and let me know what you think of the idea!

Lessons I learn from my cat

Freak out and have fun.
When someone takes a picture, pose!
It's ok to be a narcissist.
Strive for new heights even though it's risky.
Roar and let everyone know who rules!
And at the end of it all, relaaaax.
Happy Thursday! xxx
