The Fashion Month is in full swing, the season where we are given the gift of clairvoyance of sorts. Months ahead of spring, designers unveil their lines and show us what will be hot and what will be left behind. From actresses, models, performers and other celebrities, everyone flocks to the fashion capitals to see and to be seen. Of course, they make sure to put on their fashion week best, and we are here watching them and snagging some of the best street style moments. Of course, what is one to do after that but make an attempt to channel the amazing styles? And now it’s Milan’s turn. There were some truly iconic moments happening in Milan, the Versace show being just one of them, but the streets are where all the action happens, so let’s just jump right in so you can start channeling your Milan-inspired fashionista vibe.
The sweet festival life
After seeing an abundance of
menswear-inspired fashion moments during NYFW, the styles rocked in Milan were
truly refreshing. The ladies attending the show embraced different varieties of
feminine looks, while still maintaining a bit of edge. One of the most
noticeable trends was definitely the festival-loving, bohemian-Americana vibe.
Dakota Johnson and model Kirin Dejonckheere did it best. The actress was
spotted at the Gucci show rocking her ‘woke up like this’ festival hair with
the attire to match. The gentle pink floor-length floral dress paired up with a
faded denim jacket with cowboy-inspired details was definitely what festival
dreams are made of. The look isn’t even difficult to pull off, just find a
funky jacket with a few metal embellishments, a flowy romantic pastel dress,
little to no makeup and you’re ready to go. Of course, if floor-length isn’t
really your style, you can take a cue from the likes of stylist Georgia Tal and rock a playsuit. You can find an
abundance of bohemian playsuits in Australia, the country of
playfulness.
Mix and match
It’s safe to say that we’ll all be needing
some practice this season in order to gain some of those mad matching skills. A
large number of style icons were spotted with impeccable layers on the streets
of Milan. French model and actress Lou Doillon was by far the one who pulled it off
best. Although she was dressed in Gucci from head to toe, the model definitely
showed incredible layering skills. In order to rock this trend, you need to
know the following: pick colors and patterns that are contrasting but mesh well
together – like burgundy, grey and yellow. Keep all the patterns conspicuous
enough that they are distinguishable but subtle enough so that they don’t
overpower each other. Finally, put on plenty of confidence because different
layers can’t be rocked without serious swag.
The safe approach
Of course, some things never change, and so
the love of black remains in all shapes and forms. You could go for a
supermodel vibe and get the clean and sleek all-black-everything look, which definitely
has its perks. It oozes power, confidence and not a lot of effort is
necessary to put it together. All you need is a black skater dress, a
well-tailored broad-shoulder jacket, pumps and a solid tote. Of course, you
could go for a more laid-back approach, the one that has definitely been a
staple in Milan. Play with casual black dresses, twist the belt for a bit of
relaxed flair and make sure your hair isn’t overdone…or done at all.
An unexpected comeback
Yes, army jackets are back and all the
it-girls of today aren’t rocking them for just any outing, but being
photographed after fashion shows. The best possible way to pull this look off
is to not take it too seriously. Keep it a bit grungy, in the spirit of 90s, by
matching it with black or faded jeans, and depending on your mood, you can
either go with a simple crop or tee, or play with patterns and contrast it all
the way with a romantic floral blouse, although this might be a bit of a risky
move.
Supersize it
Again, in the spirit of a laid-back street
style, Milan’s signature, oversized sweaters, trench coats and virtually every possible garment
was supersized. Oversized geometric print sweaters are definitely a statement
piece, and once you have that on, you don’t really require much effort to make
an impact, so this is undoubtedly the best way to achieve the look with minimum
input.
