Daring To Dream

Top: Zara, Jeans: Dorothy Perkins, Boots: Payless, Earrings: Forever21, Bangles: H&M

This T-shirt from Zara is by far my favourite. I love the artwork on it. Very similar to what I would sketch. And it says 'Dare To Dream', supercute and super-me. Which reminds me, last night I had a dream where I was slapping this girl left and right. I was so mad at her (she did something really bad, but that's too personal to share here). The funny but not-so-surprising part is I was truly enjoying it. It's a bit scary that even in my dreams I like beating up people. Even my mom has dreams of me picking fights with others! That aside, I'm going to enjoy my Thursday in my fave Tee and my Jennifer Aniston boots. I have no clue why I refer to them as that, but when I first saw them, Jen A's name just popped into my mind. So that's what I'm calling them- Jennifer Aniston boots.

The Warrior Workout. Ouch!

Top: Zara, Blazer: Mango, Jeans: Dorothy Perkins, Shoes: River Island

These are my fave jeans. They fit purrrfectly. I could never get a pair that fit me perfectly. They'd all become loose from the waist which is so annoying. But I finally found the secret of buying a great fitting pair of jeans- buy them in a size smaller. They'll stretch and expand to fit you.  Talking of legs, I did the Warrior Workout last night in my Combat class. This workout is the one they make the instructors do to keep fit. It killed my legs. It felt as if someone reached inside my skin and twisted the muscles of my legs. But it's all good. No pain, no gain, I always say.

Happy Things To Look At

There's so much tension around me right now. The last month has been so stressful what with all the protests and now the State of Emergency that's going to last till June. So I decided to find happiness wherever I can. I love my room. It's filled with things that I love to look at. Like my dressing table with the 2 jewellery ladies on it. I love them. I want a pink gown just like that.
The other thing I love looking at is my line up of heels. They are my pride and joy. My feet are a European size 42 and most brands don't even have size 40 here in Bahrain. So growing up I never found any pretty shoes in my size. I had to wear really ugly mannish ones, and they usually were open-toed sandals which always resulted in me having very sun burnt feet.
Only the last year or so I finally found a few shops in Bahrain that have shoes in my size. Since then, I have been making up for those lost years of wearing yucky shoes. Now a month does not go by where I haven't purchased a pair of gorgeous heels. Shoe love is true love!

Little Black Dress

Dress: Zara, Necklace: Accessorize, Belt: MANGO, Shoes: Dorothy Perkins

I woke up this morning smiling, because I knew today was the day I'd finally start my outfit posts. I've always wanted to do it.
I was going through my dresses and found this black one that I had bought on my birthday in February. I realized I had completely forgotten about it, which is highly unlikely as I like to buy something new and wear it the soonest possible. This is also my first Little Black Dress, so I thought why not try it out for my first outfit post? Let me know what you think!

Little Things That Make Me Happy

I've always believed it's the little things that make a person happy. Well, at least it's like that for me. So here's a short list of the little things that make me happy.
  1. Getting into a warm, soft, fluffy robe after a shower.
  2. Coming home from a long day at work and pouring out to mum.
  3. Being completely immersed in a really good book.
  4. The scent of freshly baked bread, new clothes, lemons and Chanel no. 5.
  5. Laughing for a long time at a stupid joke.
  6. Wearing a gypsy skirt.
  7. When someone really listens to me.
  8. Getting into my warm bed and snuggling under 3 duvets on a cold night.
  9. Imagining faces of the people who annoy me while kicking and throwing punches in Combat class.
  10. Putting on make up in the morning while listening to my favourite songs.
  11. Receiving my weekly gossip magazine.
  12. Wearing 5 inch heels.
  13. Waking up early on the weekend, having breakfast and getting back into bed.
  14. Watching a romantic comedy alone.
  15. Listening to my favourite Killers songs on full volume while driving.
  16. Reading a Paulo Coelho novel in bed and highlighting parts.
  17. Getting my hair cut by my hairdresser.
  18. Dreaming while asleep. Dreaming while awake.
  19. Gazing at the full moon and starry sky on a clear night.
  20. Complimenting strangers. Receiving unexpected compliments.
  21. That moment when you realize whatever bad had happened earlier, happened for something great that's happening now.
  22. Miniature things.
  23. Bangles.
  24. Small pink things.
  25. Flowers.
  26. Bursting the bubbles on bubble wrap.
  27. Letting excellent quality dark chocolate melt in my mouth.
  28. Watching my plants grow.
  29. Making someone laugh. Really laugh.
  30. Solitude when I need it the most
That's all for now! Feel free to add your own in the comments.

Did a Porsche Throw Up On You?

Remember that scene in F.R.I.E.N.D.S where Joey is standing on the pavement dressed in Porsche apparel from head-to-toe and Ross asks him, "Did a Porsche throw up on you?" ?

Why do people like flaunting the brands or labels they're wearing? They think it's so 'cool' to be dressed head-to-toe in designer labels that they can't even pronounce. (Which was, of course, not the same in Joey's case). Now I'm not completely against designer, high-end brands. Not at all. I only despise the idea of showing off what label you're wearing.

I'm not a cow. I don't like being 'branded'. (Although in all fairness I do know women who ARE cows, and I wish I really could 'brand' them, but that's another story.) When I see a woman wearing an Aigner pendant, a Tag Heuer watch, carrying a Fendi bag, with the logos of all these brands displayed in-your-face, all I can think is- these fashion houses are getting free advertising for their label. I hate that. I would wear all these logos on my body only if they paid me. Why should I walk around like a walking, talking fashion advert drowning in a cocktail of logos, and that too pay heavily from my own pocket for them? These fashion houses should be paying ME for displaying their logos.

Very soon people will wear such signs.

For instance, take the Louis Vuitton bags that have 'LV' all over. If I paid that much for a handbag,  I'd rather have my own initials brandished all over it, thank you very much. I don't want people being able to guess where I bought my shoes, or any of my clothes that easily. (Though that can happen with high street brands also, I agree, but it's much easier to spot a Loub than a shoe from Aldo.) I like having an air of mystery around me that extends to what I wear too. I love women gushing, "Wow! Those shoes are amazing! Where are they from?".
Mr. Louis Vuitton obviously thinks very highly of himself.

I hate displaying the label so much that I don't even like picking up sportswear from Nike because they have their trademark swoosh on everything. If I wore their clothes I'd feel like I just got out of a Nike class where a professor ticked all my clothes as if to validate me.

What surprises and alarms me is how normal it has become for a brand to have it's logo or brandmark on each and everything it sells. The other day, I bought bangles from MANGO and was surprised to see a small steel-plated MNG on them. Brands may defend themselves saying they find doing this necessary to stand out amongst other brands, but they need to understand that not all of us like to reveal where we got that denim jacket/ pendant from.

Don't pick one just because it says Dior.
Another nuisance about these designer labels is that they become  too common. Take the quilted Chanel bag for example. Almost every 5th person is carrying one. The annoying thing is many people feel that they don't need any sense of style if they're wearing a designer label. Many people can't carry off pieces from a designer label, yet insist on wearing only that.
I am so sick of these!

I've seen teenagers walking in malls wearing Loubs that are 6 inches high, looking like they're about to topple backwards. These Brand Victims only care about wearing designer labels, whether or not it suits their body shape, personality or wallet. Where is the creativity in just picking all clothes from one designer label and wearing it? What I like to see are women who can mix 'n' match high street and high fashion, and carry them off glamorously.
Olivia  mixes high street and high fashion for an elegant, polished look.

And until I reach the stage where I can afford high fashion, I will keep mixing my fave high street brands, but will never, ever, look like a brand threw up on me.
