The Silver Kick Diaries

I was recently invited to the massive Gallery 21 complex to try one of their restaurants, and I chose their chic and vibrant fusion restaurant, Asia de Cuba which boasts cross-cultural Chino-Latino cuisine.

We started off with the Shrimp Ceviche and Edamame Salad. The Shrimp Ceviche is light, slightly sour with a nice kick of chilli. The best part is how fresh it tasted. The Edamame Salad is an exotic blend of different flavours and textures that came from the beans, tofu, black rice and the chilli. In drinks we ordered the Buena Vista and Coco de Brillo mocktails. The Buena Vista is a refreshing blend of pineapple and passionfruit, but Coco de Brillo {recommended to us by restaurant manager Kenneth} took us by surprise. It's a mix of avocado, coconut milk and lime juice and it's exquisitely delicious. I had to stop myself from drinking it all in one go! 

For mains we had the Asian Paella and the Seven Spice Half Roasted Chicken. The paella is served in a black stone pot, and the server pours saffron broth into the hot rice, making it sizzle. Our server Tatiana explained to us that this is done so the rice forms a thick crust at the bottom, and this crust is the specialty of the dish. She advised us to leave the paella to cool down for some time and start with the chicken until then. The chicken was cooked to perfection, just so it melts in your mouth, and we were advised to eat it with the congri and the plantain pieces in the dish. The resulting combination of the creamy black bean congri, the banana and the chicken is stunning. Again a unique and flavoursome dish. Once the paella was cooler, we dug into its mountain of seafood and beautifully flavoured rice. Tatiana served us the crust from the bottom and it was amazing- crunchy and with a bite to it. The rice is flavoured so well I couldn't stop eating it! For dessert we had the Mexican Doughnuts, soft little balls of cinnamon dough filled with caramel syrup that smell heavenly and are not too sweet. They're served with dipping caramel sauce. Light, fluffy and yummy. Our servers Tatiana and Nicolle were lovely, attentive and explained each dish to us. The ambience is vibrant with upbeat Latino music and the beautiful interiors make you forget you're in Bahrain. This place ticks all the boxes- food, atmosphere and service, if you're looking for a stylish night out.

Bahrain is celebrating Eid this week and who can resist a bit of bling during this festive time? Not me! And these Aimey Silver heels from Dune London were a perfect blingy Eid treat! Finally, I have silver kicks! Haha! I paired them with a pink satin pussybow shift dress, for a chic look that's great for Eid parties {and enough room for Eid desserts!}. I can't wait to pair these heels with jeans and other casual outfits, for a dramatic contrast. A word of advice: pointy-toed shoes can be agony on the balls of your feet since there's no platform to minimise the impact, so use in-sole gel pads to make them pain-free.
