This Idea

Top: Pimkie, Jeans: Mango, Shoes: New Look, Bangle: Gifted, Earrings: Mom's, Watch: Swatch
Whyyyyyyyyyyy is it a windy day when I decide to put my hair up in a ponytail?? It's like the wind knows. Since today I had no agenda on mind, I just threw on one of my fave Tees, pulled on jeans and brightened it up with my pink heels.

Moving on, another lazy day spent being err...lazy. I'd forgotten how relaxing it is to sit in a cafe and just chat with your girlfriend. I'm not the partying-with-many-people type, it's always small, intimate gatherings with close friends that makes me happy.

In other news, an idea has taken root in my head, and it's all I'm thinking about and wanting to take action on right noooooowwww. I can't tell what it is here, I'd rather do it and then proudly show that I did it. I know you're wondering why I'm mentioning it in the first place when I don't want to reveal it, but it's really consuming my mind. I am soooo impatient and sooo excited. And that's all I'm going to say for now. (I know, I'm exasperating)

Day One of May Day Weekend

Top: Marks & Spencer, Jeans: Dorothy Perkins, Shoes: River Island, Bracelets: Various, Earrings: F21, Watch: Swatch
It's lovely when you wake up early on a Friday morning and start your day with shopping. I spent a superfun day with my partner-in-crime and NBF Ann, out shopping and simply chatting. It's so great when you finally meet a girlfriend who understands you completely, and such a relief when you realize you're almost like twins separated at birth and going- "Oh, you too! FINALLY I found someone who thinks like me!" Bonus points if that girlfriend has a great fashion sense too.

Not much more to say, just going to put my feet up and enjooooooooooooooy this May Day weekend.

I. Feel. Free!

Top: Alcott, Jeans and Necklace: H&M, Shoes: Payless, Bangle: Parfois, Earrings: Gifted, Watch: Swatch
I feel free. really, reeeeeeeeaaaallly free. Because an amazing girlfriend made me realize I need to stop thinking about others all the time and think about me first. I thought I was pretty selfish, turns out, naah, not really. I hadn't realized I was following other people's silly rules until this very wise woman pointed it out. (Oh, btw, she's 17. Ok, you can close your gaping mouth now)

So now I've made up my mind to do just what I want to do. Without thinking about if it's going to hurt someone else's feelings. I've always been a soldier for everyone close to me. But they forget even I have problems. I should be given an Oscar for acting like I'm the happiest, most cheerful person on the planet. But I'm not. I'm human. It's high time I accept that and stop feeling guilty for feeling angry or sad or for not taking care of others. So that's that. Now I'm putting Number One absolutely, truly, first. And if someone has a problem with that, I. Don't. Give. A. Rat's. Ass.

On another note, I got these jeans for BD 5. Alright, pick your jaw up from the floor.

I Wish...

Dress: H&M, Blazer: ??, Shoes: Marks & Spencer, Necklace: Jane Norman, Bangles: Mango, Watch: Swatch
Because I'm in a super dreamy mood today, I'm going to share the wishlist that I have in my head for what's left of this year. Some wishes are small, some huge. But whatever. A wish is a wish.
Here they are:
  1. A solo vacation to Greece or Scotland.
  2. A boyfriend. I have been single for too long!
  3. Lexus SC 430. I know this car is out of production, but I still want it. In red.
  4. A shop that sells affordable 6 inch heels in my size.
  5. More self-confidence.
  6. My brother and his girlf to get engaged so we can throw a huge party and I get to wear a gorgeous gown. (I know, I'm sooooo selfless.)
  7. Sunflowers in my house. (I'll make this happen soon.)
  8. The temperature to not rise above 40 degrees centigrade. (Dreams are free, so stop laughing)
  9. A few more good friends.
  10. To get fitter.
Ok, so most of them are big wishes, but so what. Just shows I think big.

On another note, I love this charm necklace. It is trés cuuuuute! It's got a four-leafed clover, a butterfly, a cupcake, a flower, a key, a dragonfly, a bow and many hearts. Yummy!

Seasonal Friends And Looking Like A Doll

Shirt, Belt & Skirt: Mango, Shoes: Dorothy Perkins, Necklace:??, Rings- on right hand: Gifted, on left hand: Gold Souk.
Today I was thinking about this female colleague of mine, let's call her R. She doesn't work with me anymore. R's an amazing person and a good friend. I had some great times with her when we worked together. Now I'm hardly in touch with her. It's weird how some people are so close to you at some point of time, but because of circumstances, they move away. Yet you know your feelings for them will never change. Unless they murder someone maybe.

I remembered her today because whenever I would wear a skirt like this to work, she'd tell me I looked like a doll. Even another friend has told me the same thing. I don't know if it's true, but I definitely feel like a doll. A short full skirt is so graceful and feminine. It's the perfect change when you're tired of menswear-inspired trousers. Add a belt and high heels and bam! You've got the perfect combo.

Dressing By Opposites

Shirt dress: Mango, Leggings: Gap, Belt: H&M, Boots: Piazza Italia, Earrings: Gifted, Cuff bracelet: from India, Ring: New Look, Watch: Swatch
Red. Such a powerful colour. Why am I wearing it? Because I'm feeling slightly powerless. I have an 'Opposites' theory about dressing. Whenever I'm feeling less-than-awesome, I'll wear clothes that make me feel Silver-Kick-Awesome. If I'm feeling depressed or sick, I'll wear my favourite clothes and sky-high heels. And soon my spirits will start lifting.

Obviously when I'm already feeling fab, I know that I could wear a sack of potatoes and carry it off. (Although I'd never wear a sack of potatoes. I have enough people around me who do, I don't want to give them competition.)

So, if you're feeling depressed/ sick/ confused /uninspired/ miserable, why look it? If you look good, you'll feel better automatically. Anyways, it's always better to be one notch overdressed at any occasion. You come across as someone to be taken seriously. The admiring glances don't hurt either.

By the way, don't you just love this belt and ring? Got them both on the weekend on a shopping spree with a brilliantly intelligent, mature and beautiful teenager. I swear I have a girl crush on her.

Cheap And Chic

Dress: Own design, Leggings: Gap, Belt: from Rome, Shoes: Payless, Bag: Manama Souk, Earrings: Stall in Autumn Fair, Rings: Gifted, Watch: Swatch

Today, without realizing, I dressed up in unbranded, thrifty attire. Let's start with my dress. I designed this dress after getting the material from the local cloth market. It was stitched by my mom, and the crochet lace is also done by her. (I know, the lace is beautiful). It's one of my fave dresses. I love, love, love paisley print and the black and pink colour combination.

My handbag is also from the local market. An ex-colleague of mine had the same bag, I asked where she got it from and was pleasantly surpirised when she said a tiny shop in Manama souk. I promptly got one for myself. The price was very reasonable. The earrings are a lucky find, bought for a song from an Irani stall in the annual Autumn Fair. My belt is from a boutique in Rome and again, it was easy on the wallet. These leggings from Gap were also inexpensive, so were these shoes from Payless. All in all, I don't think any one item on me costed more than BD 10. (excluding my watch... oh, and my other 2 earrings.)

I am SO proud of myself. See? I can be cheap and chic too. Enjoy your weekend!

Stupid Things I Have Done

Blouse: Mango, Pants: Zara, Belt: Oasis, Shoes: Dorothy Perkins, Earrings: F21, Bangle: H&M, Ring: Gold Souk, Watch: Swatch
I've done many, many stupid things. I'm proud of them. I have a growing list of them in my head, which I often look at and laugh. So here's my latest list. Feel free to add yours in the comments. If your ego won't let you, then just sign in as 'Anonymous'.

  1. Pouring thick sugar syrup into my muesli thinking it's apple juice. In my defence the syrup did a good impersonation of apple juice.
  2. Standing in the elevator waiting for more than a minute then realizing I haven't pushed the button.
  3. Trying to pour water from the bottle while the cap is still on.
  4. Wearing my jacket upside down and not realizing until I reached home and took it off. Thankfully this happened when I was on my home from the gym so no one noticed.
  5. There is a tiny dot-like button on a car's stereo buttons. I asked if they were meant for blind drivers.
  6. Wondering why my little snip of a money plant in water was not growing while my colleague's was. Then he told me I had put it upside down.
  7. On vacation taking my camera with me and then forgetting the battery at home.
  8. Standing up on the bench in the sauna and saying "OMG it's TOO hot in here." Then my friend reminded me that steam rises up and to get my head out of the ceiling. Duh.
  9. Running the blender. Without the cap on.
Ok. So that's all. For now. I honestly can't remember any more although I know as soon as I publish this post I'll remember a dozen more. Now go on, put yours, I'd love to read them. And laugh. At you. (Hey, you're laughing at me now right? It's only fair!)

Scarlet Fever

Dress: Playlife, Blazer: H&M, Shoes: Payless, Bracelet: Gifted, Watch: Swatch
I love this red blazer! If you want to read the story behind it, read it here. Don't you just love a well-tailored blazer? It can pull all your separates together and make you look polished instantly. Plus red always makes me feel super powerful. (Maybe that's why I have the urge to slap some dumb people today)

I've been feeling nostalgic about school the past few days so I decided to put together this preppy outfit. (Except the shoes. I had to put in the fierceness somewhere, and these suede peep-toe ankle boots do the job perfectly). I'm seriously falling in love with H&M. I used to hate it when it first opened here. Most of the clothes were outdated. But seems like the big guys at H&M realized that even a small place like Bahrain has fashion sense, and finally have started stocking their trendy items here. Which is very, very good for moi. Trendy quality fashion at reasonable prices? Yes please!

Mind Your Own Business

Top: French Connection, Pants: Mango, Scarf, Earrings, Ring on right hand: Gifted, Ring on left hand: Manama Souk, Boots: Payless
A colleague of mine recently told me that a friend of a friend told her that some of the guys in my gym classes think it's weird that I wear make-up while working out. The first thought that popped in my head (after the thought that at least I'm being talked about, hehe) was: How is that any of their business?? Granted, I wear make-up to my gym classes. Because I don't have the time to remove it. I go straight from work to the gym, and I have about 10 minutes to change my clothes, put up my hair and run and secure a good spot in the class. My reason aside, again: How the heck does it affect anyone else if my facial pores get clogged?

Really, it exasperates me how people cannot mind their own business. I want to ask them- Are you perfect? Do you do everything right? Thought not. Then, shut up and mind your own business. And the next time you have a problem with me, grow a pair and come and say it to my make-upped face.

I'm Doing What I Love!

Shirt: Playlife, Blazer and Ring: India, Pants: Mango, Boots: Payless
I've been feeling nice and glowy from inside the last few days. Even though there's a lot of negativity around me, I'm feeling super-good. Why? Because I just realized that no matter what, I'm doing what I love.
I love fashion, I love being creative with style. I've been wanting to start a style blog for ages. And now I'm finally doing it. I may not have the perfect circumstances, or the perfect resources. Heck, I don't even have an SLR camera. Can't afford it. I'm taking these pics with my little Panasonic Lumix. A lot of people ask me "Who takes the photos?". I do, myself. Using the self-timer on my camera. I don't even have a tripod (same reason, my bank account won't allow it). So I'm using a stepladder as a makeshift tripod. As for the location, I'm just really, really grateful that my home has a terrace outside.

You can either wait until you have all the resources and all the perfect circumstances. Or you can just say "Screw it, I'm just gonna do what I want to, starting right NOW.". Because life is too short to wait for everything to fall into place. In the end all you need is passion, creative improvisation and boots that make you feel like a superhero.

Oh, btw, I keep my horse on the same terrace. I rode him to work today, thus the outfit. No, just kidding. You think I'd have a horse but no money to buy a better camera and tripod?? Ha.
